Unhappy please help with my wisdom teeth pain

so i had my wisdom teeth taken out last friday morning, and i'm still in the worst pain ever. i iced my jaw for the first two days, and heated it for the second two, and i'm still not on solid foods. they gave me hydrocodone (sp?) for the pain, but it's not helping at all, with the exception of getting me drowsy so i can sleep.

i kept calling the doctor, and they won't prescribe me anything else and they told me to take ibuprofen (which i've been taking every four hours all week that doesn't help either). i can barely open my mouth to eat, can't get rid of the pain, and can't talk much (which i'm sure cjchaps is happy about).

does anyone have any ideas about what i can take that will lessen my pain or numb me up that i can buy otc? i really need your guys' help.

you can try heroin. It has thoroughly documented pain relieving abilities. Any narcotic ought to work really, if they wont prescribe it to you just go about getting it via other means.

dont smoke
dont suck on anything (no pun intended) such as milk shakes, straws, hard candy... this pulls out the clots in the holes where your teeth used to be.

Take ibuprofen, its almost impossible to OD on it, so dont worry about that (just use your head...) In the military they feed that stuff to us like candy.

You can put a icecube in your mouth if you want, but resist sucking on it, any pressure drop in your mouth and you will risk getting a dry socket (then you will really know what pain is)

Put on some music, and try to ride it out. they gave me percocet, and then motrin.. i had 3 dry sockets becausei was a dumbass. one of the worst pains ever.

Good luck.

too much ibuprofen causes bleeding stomach ulcers, go easy on it. (10% of ulcers are from ibuprofen, the other 90% are caused by the bacteria H. pylori).

To numb the pain you can take a syringe (that they should have give you) and fill it with Chloroseptic and use that to clean out and flush the area where the surgery took place. That should help make the pain a little more subtle. Good luck!

I guess I am really lucky that I don't have to have mine pulled. I have heard it sucks.

you should have told your dentist you are very timid about pain in your mouth. When I got my out (2 seperate occasions) I told my dentist that I was very sensative about pain in mouth and they gave me high dosage vicodin. When I got my bottom teeth removed, my entire jawline bruised and turned green after a day. I was too hopped up on goofballs to care. And stay away from candy. I sucked on a mint and my gums exploded and I almost bled to death. Seriously it was gross, I bled the night while I slept and spit out a full mouthfull of skin and blood. It was like an oral abortion.

I went through the same exact thing about 3 years ago. The pain was AWFUL. I highly recommend Vicoden or Vicoprofen if you can get it. It does not make the pain go away, it literally gets you sky high to the point that you don't care about anything.

Just rest assured, the pain WILL subside, just try to be patient and don't suck on anything. I'm sorry you have to deal with that, I know just how bad it is.

Mine didn't hurt too bad, except for the one that dry-socketed on me.... THAT SUCKED! I had to go back to the doctor and they crammed a clove in the socket! I don't know the reasoning behind it, but it worked like a charm.

'Course, like an idiot I was at Laguna Seca to observe my friend at the Skip Barber school the day after I had all 4 pulled. Being away from home and off medication probably wasn't the best idea and contributed to the dry socket.

Perhaps you've got dry sockets... in which case, see if you can get those clove dealies installed.... it really helped.

If it still hurts that bad, especially after a few days, there is a good chance you could have "dry sockets". Ask your doctor to check that out immediately.

LOL back when I was little they told me they would have to do that to me to fix my teeth. We found a different oral surgeon who referred us to an ortho (who I hate) who had me wear metal bull**** in my mouth for a solid 9 years. I still can't decide if that hell or 9 years of braces and permanent retainers and palletal expanders would be worse.
