Post Ganz intake and a/f ratio question. Larry?

I got my MY2001 RS in December and decided to start some modest upgrades. For the engine, I am leaning toward getting Larry's intake. However, my question is: has anyone done this mod and had an a/f meter attached? I read in SCC magazine (March 2000) that the intakes that they tested read a reduction in hp (in the upper revs:6200)because the ECU was a reading a "lean-run condition". Does this happen with the Ganz intake?

I know that I have a MAP sensor vs. the MAF sensor that was in the SCC test car and I know that Larry's intake does not remove the stock air box. Do these two differences mean that I don't have to invest in an a/f meter? If I do, any suggestions?

The only other engine mods that I see doing in the future is getting an Unorthodox underdrive pulley at the same time I get the intake. Possibly a lightened flywheel and ACT clutch and a header system and 2.25" exhaust. These are way in the future, if I do them. I plan on concentrating more on suspension upgrades. I plan on keeping this car n/a. Thanks for any help.

I installed the AF meter after I put Larry's Intake, but the AF meter always reads in the middle during cruising (especially on cruise control).

After I installed the intake, I definitely felt high-end power gain, and do not notice any low-end torque loss.

Sounds like good news for me. However, you said that the A/F meter was reading "in the middle" during cruise. How does it read at WOT or high revs. Just curious. Thanks.

WOT or high rev (anything over like 4500RPM), the A/F meter reads "rich" (somewhere between the 1st green LED and the last green LED).

The only time it reads LEAN or shows any red LED is when I let go the gas, stepping on the gas suddenly (the red LED shows only for 1/2 sec), or idling.

I don't think you have anything to worry about by putting new intake or exhaust.

I got larrys intake about a month ago, along with it I tossed in a K&N high flow air filter. I notested a very nice change. Its alot smoother though the whole power band. I get alot less timer retards. I haven't added anything ells to the air system so I have a stock MAP.

Just to let everyone know I was at the JCsport grand re-opening and I got a short throw shifter and STI bushings---all I have to say is hella nice. Crisp and Clean JC did a superb job.
