Need some advice.. I p/u my new car several days ago & have approx 250 miles on it. I went to check the fluid in the manual trans (engine off;car on flat surface) & the dip stick was completely dry. Now the owner's manuel says do not mix fluids. I have no idea, what was in it. At any rate, it took a full quart of fluid. I used Pennzoil Gearplus; 80w-90 GL-5. It seems to run OK.
Any idea why this would be a quart low on a new car?? I called the dealer & complained the salesman said they don't check that?? Did I do anything to screw it up??

You did nothing wrong. It's good that you caught it! The stuff you put in is fine, it will mix with the stock lube, but you might want to consider going synthetic.

Mine was low from the dealer too, not that low though. Check to make sure that the drain plug is not leaking. When I changed my trans fluid the drain plug came off REAL easy. I was suprised it didn't leak.

Thanks for the responses..The last car I had (96 Probe) didn't have a dip stick on the trans so I wasn't familiar with what to put in it. However, I'm still under the impression the dealer should have checked the fluids when the vehicle was prepped. I thought that's what they get paid to do (or do they just wash it?). Fortunately I read the manual & decided to check it myself.
