Thumbs down First time at track, Dissapointed!

Well, yesterday was my first time at the track, I ran a total of four runs. Worst time was 15.2 and my best time was 14.7. I'm reallly dissapointed with these times as I'm at Cobb Stg 2, and I was hoping to break into the 13's. I know that I can make inprovements on the the 60' time, since my best was a 2.3. Also all of my trap speeds were at 92mph. On a sice note, I was launching at 4k doing a fair job at slipping the clutch, I might have been slipping it too long though. And on comparison to my friends evo, he ran a best of 14.2 with a 1.8 60' and a trap of 94mph. His car is stock and that was his first time at the track. I also ran a 98 Mustang Cobra, he ran a 14.5 with a 2.6 60' and a 101mph trap. Also a stock STI hit 13.2, 13.4 and 13.5. Any pointers would be appreciated! This was done at Famoso Raceway with a temp of 67-71 degrees.

I think the best thing to improve your times would be practice. Practice makes perfect The more you practice launching the better your times should be...

Default Just practice

Don't worry about it too much. Just get out there and work on ur 60s then you will see those times come down.

Ok, let say that I was able to lower the 60' time to about 1.9, what would I be able to expect on the 1/4?

Oh ya it is suposed to be like for every .1 faster in your 60 thats .2 in your 1/4 mile. so ya with those mods you could probly do a 1.85 60 if you work on it so that should put you in the high 13s. have fun

Your ET doesn't really mean anything since you had a ****ty launch. What was your trap speed? At least by that we can generally tell if you're makinjg the power you're supposed to.

I'm no drag-racing expert, but that trap speed is really low... Cobb lists a trap speed of 101.5mph for the stage 2 on their website.

Obviously, under less-than-ideal conditions, you might not get that, but almost 10mph is a lot.

Yeah, I was traping at 100mph this past saturday with up pipe, down pipe, cat back, and a boost controller.

Stock I was trapping at 93mph. So something is off here. Did you let off the gas as you finished? With good 60's you should be mid 13's easy. Practice does make you better, I started out my first run with a 2.4 60' now after 14 runs I can consistantly get 2.0's. I know they are not the best but I don't want to break anything.

A friend told me this is how you drive at a drag strip "Drive it like you hate it!"

later and good luck

Thats the reason that I said that I was dissapointed, I was expecting to hit high 13's.
And the weather was pretty good also. No, I wasnt letting off the gas at the end, I only shifted to 4th. But I dont think that it was that, it just seems that my trap speeds are really low to what I should be getting. Specially since I'm boosting on the high end of what Cobb avdertise, 16.2psi. Or could it be that when I shift I slip the clutch a little bit? I've noticed that on other times when I hit the clutch right it just takes off, it kinda squats down. On all these runs whenever I shifted I slipped the clutch maybe a little too much??

Trap speeds are unusually low for a CS2. Stock cars have hit 94mph. I hit 92mph stock.

As for the bad launches, yes they'll hurt your trap speed but I, personally, wouldn't think they'd hurt you by 6mph. Even with a 2.2 sixty foot, I went 13.5 @ 101 and that was with just an mbc, downpipe, axleback. I don't really know what to say except get back to the track and see what's up. Also, if you're on RE-92's, raise the tire pressure, it helps with the launch. I got my best launch on the stock tires with 40f/38r.

I'm actually using 17" Advan RC-II's. Yeah, I'm gonna go back pretty soon, I think that I just messed up on the shifting. Thanks everyone for ur input!

For your WRX, I would suggest if you are using 17" rims, what I do is take my wagon to 6500 rpms and instead of slip off my foot off the clutch what I do is I just dump it, it will make your car spin those wheels and obviously it will break some traction, that way I got my 1.8 in the 60 ft. I've seen people get better but because they drive like hell, I granny shift all my gears still I got my wagon with Turbo XS stage 2 to a 13.1 @103 mph

Cheers and good luck

You are not on the stock tranny right? I tried to launch at 4500 and the clutch just slipped until I shifted to 2nd. It seems that the clutch is going out and that might have been the reason to my slow times.

You dump the clutch at 6500?? That is very scary, I dont even think I would do that with the sti tranny, but then again thats probably why I got such a high time.

Either clutch is going out or you're slipping too much. Sometimes I think that mine is going but it's just an overslip.

I can tell you that without a doubt, it was NOT your fault, it was the track, or bad gas, or some other phenomena causing your bad times at the track. Please dont beat yourself up about it, you are a good person, and very attractive to women the world over. I only wish I could be half the person you are.

Is that what you guys want me to say????
