Question How did the 2.2 suddenly get 140+ HP??

I just noticed this at the auto show, all the plain Imprezas now have 142 or so HP engines. My 96 only has 135 I believe. When did this change occur, and more importantly, how did they do it?
Inquiring, power challenged L owner wants to know.

Do a search litteraly the same question was asked about a week ago. But to sum up what I remeber: 99 was the big change in power and it was due to evolution in the engine you know more R&D and tuning.

Have a Nice Day?

Obviously in 99 something else took place. Tuning through OBD-II? Different cams? Fuel system change? Since there was no displacement change or compression upgrade I'd suspect it has to be in the fuel, management or timing areas.

I did a search also, there is just speculation in all the prior posts. I honestly don't believe a couple tenths of compression added nearly 10hp from 97 to 99. There has to be more to the story.

BTW, I though all OBS had 2.5 engines, which would have the 10:1 compressiom.

No OBS has had the 2.5l yet. The 2.5 will be the base engine for MY02 though.
