Question Chile?!?!

Did you know that the Baja is sold in Chile?

http://www.subaru.cl/index.asp

I checked the Subaru Global site, but Chile is the only South American country in which the Baja is sold, which seems odd... I mean why Chile of all places?

15000 CLP= 23600 USD

It's almost same price as here in US but I find really nice interior from pictures. I saw better back seat (Does not have cub holder in back seat.)

looking at the pictures closer, they look just like the ones on the 05 Outback.

the site is working properly. Yes some of the images are from the new Outback. I'm sure SOA is dumping existing Bajas that they over-produced onto the South American market. No doubt the powers that be in Japan had a hand in this marketing move. I'd be curious as to how it sells there, as there has long been an established market for car-based pickups in South America.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. While I'm sure you're correct about the fact that S.A. loves "Utes", I can't convince myself that SOA modified the existing Baja just for S.A. Mods like those shown would likely have made the way onto the option sheets for the US market vehicles.

I spoke with my local dealer, and he stated that Chile isn't the only S.A. market that gets the Baja; Argentina also gets them.

Now here's an odd question:

After having spent time in Australia, and having rented a Ford Falcon Ute (If you don't know what that is, look it up on Ford's Australian website, then cry in your beer a little), I wonder why SOA didn't send this thing to the land down under. It would've sold like hotcakes with vegemyte down there......

After looking at that site again there are a bunch of other changes that their baja has.......

Side airbags built into the seat.....I wonder if it has side air cutains?

It looks like a navigation unit as well........built into the dash...
This should be a retro option for all Baja models....

seating for three minature people in the back......

And I like those side mirrors.......I just saw a comercial for the New Legacy and it has those mirrors......It was on ESPN......
Lance was driving it away.....He is in third overall...........

With all due respect, I think the site is a bit screwed up...

This image is given for dual air bags (the wheel and cruise control thingy are from a 2005 Legacy/Outback and has the +/- buttons for the manumatic transmission...):

And this one for the cargo area (shows a 2005 sedan's sun roof and seat - lack of roof racks is telling...):

And there are others (exterior mirror with turn signal from 2005 not matching exterior mirror from splash image, electrical seat used to illustrate seat airbags, etc.)... Methinks they mixed the pitures up...

Baja is not listed on Argentina's web site.

http://www.subaru.com.ar/site/template.asp

I'm not sure many modifications (if any) would be needed to sell the Baja in Chile? It's almost a 3rd-world country with lots of mountains and bad roads, so the Baja (as is) should be pretty well suited for the conditions. Maybe off-road tires? I doubt there are any local safety-related issues that need to be addressed.

As to selling in Australia, that means RHD and everything that goes along with that conversion. It's cheaper for SOA to export the Baja to countries that sell LHD vehicles. From everything I've seen to date, SOA is investing as little as possible in terms of marketing this vehicle, so I don't see them doing a RHD version.

I agree. It's all screwed up. The only thing for sure that we know is the Baja is sold there. Everything else is up for grabs in terms of getting accurate info.
