Unhappy Cracked Windshield

Anyone know a good place that will do a good job at a resonable price replacing a windishield in Calgary?

Story Background: I had a chip on the windshild and went to the glass place on center street to get it filled. They ended up making the chip into a 6 inch crack. They blamed the crack being casued by the thin whinshield installed on Japanese cars ( I think that's all BS, It's more like a lack of experience. Never going there again for anything). Also I couldn't do anything about the crack they caused cause they have signs warning the coustomers that this might happen.

I know there are lots of glass place in calgary but I am afraid of some windshield places will cut into the paint when they are removing the old windshiled. I had a friend that picked up his A4 and found a dent on his hood. They denied it was their falt and said that it was already there when the car was dropped off. All these horror stories about glass dealers is making me very worried about getting my glass replaced.

Another thing I would be afraid of is that they might give me a rubber trim that's generic. Generic Trims look awful and they bend upwards at the edges ( that just allows rain and junk to fill the edge). I have talked to some glass dealers and they said they get a kit specifically for the car, have anyone had this so called kit before?

Price quotes are around 350 up. Helppppppp!!!

I get mine done at Crystal Auto Glass because that's who my insurance makes me go to. They have scratched my paint under the plastic trim, but I've never had problems with the rest of the work. I pay extra for glass coverage and only pay $50 for a new windshield.

Get used to the windshield chipping and cracking. I don't know if all Japanese cars have "thin" glass, but I know my WRX does. Since I drive the Deerfoot almost every day, I go through a windshield about every 18 months. I wait to replace the glass until its full of chips or has a crack across my line of sight.

On the other hand, my crappy 1994 Caravan is still using the windshield I got with it 5 years ago.

Default Windshield repaired

Dynasty Auto Glass did a good job for me.
They are at Bay 6, 411 - 38 Avenue N.E.
Right off Edmonton Trail. Kind of hard to find.
You may want to talk to Darcy. He knows his stuff.
Very competitive and even gave me a loaner!
Cheers.

Keep an eye on the scratched paint. My integra had the windshield repaired 5 or 7 years ago and I am almost sure the paint under the trim was scratched and now it's starting to bubble around the windshield. If I want to repalace the windshield again it would require body work as well

Have a Nice Day?

I talked to the gentlemen at Dynasty. He said they don't use box cutters anymore. Instead he uses an air cutter. It will still cut into the paint. He said they apply a primer to cover the cuts and that's about it. So if you are going to replace the winshield keep this in mind

I've always taken my Impreza, and the wife's legacy to Speedy Glass. They've always done excellent work for me.

I don't have glass insurance on my car because that's just a bigger license to print money for the insurnace companies via increased premiums.

My wife's Legacy cost around $360ish including the dreaded GST (with tint and heating element). I would imagine a WRX would be slightly less than that.

My windshield cracked within the first two months. It is a very common problem on Subaru's. I think the thin/cheap Japanese glass IS to blame. The replacement glass I got has lasted me almost two years without a chip (lots of gravel roads too). I remember reading a thread about a Subaru owner who insisted on replacing his cracked windshield with factory glass (rather than aftermarket American made glass) only to have it crack again a week later.
