Default What is that noise?

What could be rattling or ticking at the center of the motor under the intake manifold and above the oil pan? It only occurs between 1900 and 2100 rpm’s once the engine has warmed up.

Thus far I have found no leaks, no lack of power, or anything that has affected performance. The car runs perfect with the exception of this annoying and somewhat loud tick!

Just got back from Subaru. They said the noise was inside the block. Probably the crank or a rod beariing.

Anyone know where to get a cheap bottom end or short block? In Oregon?

So far reliabilty with Subaru has been awful. I just had the top end done due to a bad head gasket at 100k. Before that, the rear bearings went, then the oil seal, then the water pump, and now the bottom goes. I never had this problem with any Honda's with over 200k on them. Just my two cents.

Thanks

Oh don't tell me this! I'm having a similar rattling in the same area!

Sounds like a lemon to me.

Mine is doing that now. Since the engine is still under warrenty, I think I'll ask them about it. I thought mine was the exhaust heat shield? Still doing it, albiet, a lot more quietly.
