I don't know how many of you know what an SHO is... BUT here's an insteresting read - especially for you STi owners out there...

I wouldn't be so quick on calling BS if I were you... a co-worker said he beat an STi in his 95 mustang 5.0

Ever done Auto-x... just watching auto-x you know "it's all in the driver" is true

10% car - 90% driver

I agree with the driver argument but I still don't believe it. More than that, I get sick of "I walked all over this <insert WRX/STi/etc. here> in a 1/4 mile..." stories, I could care less.

Well, I wouldn't quite say bs. from a roll, if the sti was below 2 grand, a modded sho would be able to give it a good go, especially if the STi driver "has the suck."

I've beaten cars i shouldnt have, hell i beat a sc430 from a rolling start (seeing him swear and hitting his steering wheel in my review mirror was the best part of that vacation)

Tim

P.S. Oh i mean my friend beat a sc430 from a roll, wasn't me racing, no sir, thats bad. *shakes finger*

No need to get fiesty about it switch... my point was quick assumptions are usually not the best... both sides of the coin need to be looked at (need I revive that damned SRT4 thread???)

Doesn't sound to me like the guy even knows the difference between a wrx and sti.
I've had a co-worker bug me cause he stomped on it beside me in his cavalier. He figured he was racing me, I thought he was just showing me his new exhaust so I just followed. I had to race him a couple weeks later just to shut him up. It shows though that sometimes a "race" might not be a race.

I am getting tired of hearing about "Oh I beat an STI the other day" stories too.

Who gives a rats behind about 1/4 mile anyway. WE ARE SUBARU!!! WE RALLY.

Bring any of those cars off the beaten track and try to wip a WRX or an STI.

Yep, I linked from that site to the STi vs Cobra site. Man there are a lot of guys with small penises out there.
Subaru doesn't build dragsters. Most of this stuff is as pertinent to me as "My WRX totally smoked an F1 racecar in that TSD rally"

Your words have wisdom.

It actually takes a lot of money to get our cars down the 1/4 mile in a decent time.

We can rally right out of the box.

people are idiots

I have a thing for starting controversial threads...

funny though how worked up people get over "my car is ____ than your car" or "my car can beat your car in ____"

It's almost like going back to playschool with "my daddy can beatup your daddy"

Impreza GC8

Let's say that I had a tonne of money. Let's say that I bought an STi. Better yet, say that I bought the drivetrain / powertrain from an STi and put it into a GC8. I see a not-quite-Taurus, feel a bit cocky, and have a go.

I would lose; I don't know squat about racing, and almost as little about driving. I'd lose to most anybody, in all likelihood. Clutch? What's a clutch? If you drop it, will it land on your foot? Why would someone have difficulty believing the claim?

Maybe the car was outfitted to look like an STi; that seems to be an option people consider seriously. Why not an equally plausible bad driver?

And why am I spending the time posting a reply to this??

Thats why I luv my 323..

AWD Turbo pushing around 175 Hp

There are a lot of cars that get suprised by my little beast and I can just imagine the war stories...

My best story is ending up at a light beside a hoped up bronko in the middle of a blizzard.

There was about 6 inches of snow on the ground and he had been ripping around so I knew he was going to go at the light.

I locked up 4wd and dusted him to the next light. He looked stunned when he caugth up to me and just kept looking at my car and shacking his head... I am sure he is still trying to figure out how a Front wheel drive 323 beat his truck in the snow.

an SHO (if you are serious) is a Ford Taurus with ayamaha engine and a couple other cosmetic and performance enhancements. It's pretty much the first version of SVT except only did the Taurus. It's a fairly rare car and is considered the "ultimate sleeper" much like a GTP.

If you want to go into more detail there's 3 generations of that car and was discontinued in 98/99 I believe.

If you want to know a ton more about them or want to see pics... cardomain has a section just for the taurus SHO. Most people consider the 93-95 GENII SHO MTX the best ones.

hope that helps.

Default Let's clarify a few things...

I am the one that posted the race...

First off all ANYTHING can happen on the street. I was expecting to get beat. I never expected to have him get the jump and me pull and pass on him especially.

Secondly, I stated that the second time we went when I was not in my powerband he walked me well.

In all fairness it's possible it could have been an regular WRX, since it was night, I could have maybe missed the one or two clues to point to a fake STI.

I asked the guy if it was modded, he replied yes, but his defination of modded coulda been some Pioneer deck in his car. You never know.

Like someone else stated its mainly driver and like I said earlier it depends if you are in your powerband or not.

I could care less if he beat me, I would easily admit it, with no excuses. Hell, I would just be impressed to keep up with one if you think about how much money an STI is compared to my 92 SHO.

Anyhow just thought I should clear that up, cause I don't go around making up stories trying to make the SHO sound like the best car in the world cause it's not, but it is a hell of alot of fun.

How true! Most of the time, I don't even realize the other car is actually trying!
