I purchased the WRX Sti exhaust and 2.5 in. midpipe from Mile Shields at SPD and had it installed last week (sorry all- didn't have the time to do it myself- $30 on the side is worth it).
First must comment that the exhaust is taken off a new WRX and is therefore not technically new, but has less tnan 500 miles on it. Midpipe is new, however. Both parts are stainless steel. Appearance is great- has "Sti" embossed on the side of the tail pipe. Workmanship looks very good. Sound- I love it. I wanted a quiet system and knew that this was supposed to be the quietest of the aftermarket systems. At idle it is no louder than stock. Crack the throttle and it is louder, but never obtrusive! Has a much deeper, bass-ier sound that I love. I can hear it but it is never annoying- I love how it sounds more authoritative but is not obnoxious. Very distinctive and unique sound. Performance- the butt-dyno does fee4ls a modest improvement. Most noticably is on the highway, when I accelerate from 55 to, say, 70- it feels livelier. I do notice an improvement all around, and it willingly revs to redline. In summary, definitely a bargin with noticable improvement. For the price you might pay for just an aftermarket muffler, you get a genuine Sti product and midpipe. Give Mike a ring- he was great to work with and has some terrific products (see my review of the Prodrive P1 suspension system too). leo

So how did you manage to get the 2.5" midpipe to bolt up to the 2.25" STi unit??
Whas the STi unit trimmed and a flange welded?? I have the STi with 2.25" mid from SPD and it was a perfet bolt on fit, however a 2.5" mid in my mind wouldn't work, if a flange was added and some trimming wasn't done, then the exhaust can wouldn't even fit in the stock location. Are you sure you have a 2.5" midpipe?? Thanks. omahasubaru@hotmail.com |

omahasubaru you are correct- it is a 2.25 in. midpipe, sorry (fingerfault). Bolted up perfectly. Since I had it installed, the installer had the correct gaskets for the flanges. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. I'm glad you like the system, I do.. although if and when I get an intake I'm afraid that the intake sound will drown out my exhaust. Oh well I guess some borla headers would fix that.. Hee hee.
BTW what MY is your car?? what other mods have you done? I'm curious especially if you have intake modes on a MY99. Thanks. |
