Question Benefits of Ceramic Coating?!?!

So my turbo kit should be here in the next couple of weeks. I found a guy who would ceramic coat my turbo and up/down pipes for a little over $200. Question is...Is it REALLY worth it? I also have heard of "Jet Hot" around. Is that any different? (better or worse)

And I might have a lineup on custom headers

Its a great idea. The coating keeps the pipes and the turbo hot so that the gas flows quickly...benefits...faster spool up, keeps everything else cooler because the heat stays in the turbo and the piping. I believe that it prevents corrosion as well. Get it all coated with a good quality product, its not necessarry though.

I have used HPC, they are pretty close to me in Oklahoma so I've dropped off parts myself.

No complaints.

I don't beleive that Jet Hot is even close to as good as a ceramic coating.

If you want a good ceramic coating with a nice chrome finish, get some cermacrome from Performance Coatings .

Ummmm, Jet Hot is a ceramic coating - a metallic ceramic coating to be exact. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm thinking an actual pure ceramic coating would be too brittle to live up to extended use in the automotive environment. Do you have other experience from the turbo 'Bird, Mike?

OK, just got off the phone with Performance Coatings. Their satin finish stuff is, in fact, a pure ceramic coating that provides 2000degF protection. So, looks like I was wrong there.

The Cermachrome, though, is a metallic-ceramic coating just like Jet Hot Sterling, with a 1300degF rating and a polished-look finish. The difference is Jet Hot makes their own stuff, and PC gets theirs from a company called Techline (sp?). The guy I talked to said probably 99% of the independent coaters use the Techline stuff, which makes me wonder if that's what Air Born Coatings www.airborncoatings.com uses. (I intend to get my MRT headers coated by Air Born, since they're only an hour away I can save myself the shipping costs).

Jet Hot also makes coatings with up to 2450degF protection, but that's not what most people are referring to when they mention getting something "Jet Hot coated".
