Lightbulb 2G Impreza Engine and Tranny Mounts

Extra, extra, extra! I did some research and it turns out that the new Impreza uses exactly the same engine and tranny mounts. That means that everyone who is replacing their old Impreza can keep the STi engine and tranny mounts if you have them and use them on the new Impreza.

No, the drivetrain layout is different as the suspension geometry. Thats why I think it's kinda funny that some company just redo their top mounts and use the suspension kits made for the old Impreza's and sell them for the new Impreza's. Suspension geometry, curb weight and other things will require completely different valving and spring rates.

The wheelbase is wider. The front axles are pushed more to the front and the rear axles are pushed back. Add more weight and you have a completely different car. Not to mention that the body is 140% more solid.

hm. so this means I can do a 2002 WRX engine swap into an older body-style Impreza? The engine and tranny mounts are the same, which means the overall shape and position are roughly the same too. So all I might need to do is use the old Impreza driveshafts, deal with the wiring harness, and I'm all set?

This is looking better and better. Just gotta wait until some kid crashes his WRX... Just kidding!

efoo,

i guess an engine swap is very possible,
i doubt they would change the bolt pattern without changing the engine code, they are still EJxx engines after all.

besides the new 2002 wrx engines have an new block casting which appears to be a more durable "deck" design
i wonder if i can swap an 6speed into my impreza.

i hope the axle splines are the same hehe
