Question 2.2l turbo block and 2.5l heads

I've seen it done before (haven't we all) but I would like to know...

1. What head gasket does one use?
2. What intake manifold does one use?
3. What exhaust does one use?

It would be cool to use the turbo 2.2 block and n/a 2.5 heads using the 2.5 intake, but retain the 2.2 exhaust. You think?

Let me know folks...

Mac

you would want to use the 2.2 head gasket the heads from the 2.5 you would want to use the 2.5 manifold if thats what you have. you can use the exhaust from either since the exhaust manifols are in the same place on both just depends on how you are using the turbo. your CR is going to be quite different should be lowered even further, depends on which 2.5 heads you are going with personally i would get the dohc and a set of cams from trey and spin it to 8000rpm if your turbo and fuel management can support that.

Trey doesn't have DOHC cams yet... you'd also need to get some other wokr done to get 8000rpm... you could probably get at least 7000rpm tho

How much do you think/guess I'll lose on the compression ratio?

It normally runs something like 8.51:1 on the EJ22, and, what, 10.5:1 on the EJ25?

The Legacy Turbo EJ22 is in fact 8.0:1 and the 2.5L DOHC heads have a larger combustion chamber than the heads that come with the legacy turbo so you'll be under 8:1 for sure. How much under? Ask Trey Cobb.

This compression ratio might be fine for a really high boost effort, but IMO it's too low for anything else.

I've talked to trey about strengthing the DOHC 2.5 liter heads. He can do it and he can design cams for whatever aplication you want right there on the spot. Your lookinf between 2500-3200 for full headwork. thats about 3 times as much as a brand new EJ22T shortblock.

Just make usure you get post 96 DOHC heads because the older ones don't fit the EJ22T. The DOHC heads are really hard to find for some reason, but I will not give up.

Your can get 300 dollar a pair hads if you don't care about condition. You basically want the valve cover and head casing. Everything else Trey can fix or put in better parts.

The phase II 2.5L SOHC will fit but sith some adjusting.

So you are saying the 2000 SOHC heads from my MY00 Impreza will fit the EJ22T block, right?

I figure I'll just use them, along with the intake, to make life easier. Of course, it won't be easy but I sure like to fool myself into thinking so!

the 2000 heads will fit but not without modifications. You might want to ask around for detail on this.

Question

Would you happen to know roughly what mods are needed?

I really don't want to send you adrift on this, because I myself am not consentrating on using the Phase II 2.5 L SOHC, I believe MYPREZA has some info on that, you can even talke to trey about them.
