Default JDM V7 vs V8 Suspension

What are the main differences between the JDM STI V7 and V8 suspension? Also, what is the difference between the springs that come with the JDM struts and the STI pink springs? Thanks.

V7 is for bugeye Imprezas, V8 for the "normal" headlight versions. The major difference is rear spring and strut top design. There was a V7 wagon version, but not V8.

JDM springs come in standard (188/173), Type RA (215/190), and Spec C (200/130-200, progressive). The USDM STI uses Spec C springs.

Regular STi springs (black) are regular height, Pinks are lowering springs. V8 Pinks (257/217) are stiffer than V7 Pinks (215/190).

This is all of the top of my head, so don't sue me if I got a number wrong.

will the v7 strut/spring combo work on a 2004 wrx and will i have buy other things to make it work (like tophats)? if not, then should i just look for v8 suspension instead? thanks again for the help.

If you get the V7 combo complete with top hats, you'll be fine to install in a 2004 WRX. If you only get the struts and springs you'll need to get 02/03 rear hats, your front hats will work fine.

I would personally go with the V8 setup as its an easier swap to go to the STi pink springs which you are sure to go to. Plus, I've heard that there might have been some valving improvements with the V8's. Not sure though. However, the V7 struts have a few more spring options out available because they've been around longer.

Okay I've been looking at this all for some time. My simple question is do the Ver 8 Sti takeoffs will work on an 03 or do I need to get a set of Ver 7 takeoffs?

From everything I have read, I need the Ver 7 set because of the issue with the rear Ver 8 tophats not fitting the 03's rear, right?

No, Ver8 bolt right up to the older cars. It's just that you cant mix and match their rear springs without having the proper model strut tops. If you have ver 8 springs you need the ver 8 tops, etc.

Exactly! If you have a complete setup of springs, struts and hats, either will bolt up.
