Default How could I tell if a rim will fit my WRX?

Like the numbers. I don't know anyhing about wheels and would like some help.

it needs to have a bolt pattern of 5x100, and an offset of 45-52

So a 40 offset will not fit?

I understand what bolt pattern is but what is offset?
