Angry AT won't hit redline

I have a MY99 that won't pull to redline. It shifts at about 5950 in 1, 6000 in 2nd, and it looks like it will in 3rd. haven't redlined 4th yet though, not enough straight road around w/out cops.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what I can do about it. I installed a K&N and did an ECU reset and it still happens. Any help on this?

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that peak HP and Torque come BELOW the redline, somewhere around 5500 rpm? the torque and hp numbers actually DROP off after that, so your AT shift points are pretty well matched to the engine.

Mine shifts past 6k every time when I want it to. Shifts right b4 it touches the redline on the tach. Have you tried pushing the gas pedal all the way to the ground? Or if you r crazy enough u can shift it manually

cracked #2 cylinder... car overheated 1 time... this is typical of the 98 RS' and the 99 GT's - the Phase I DOHC engine... it's crap!

all repaired under warranty...
and all seems to be ok at this point...

i'll keep ya posted...

I've heard that there is some variation in the rev-limiter setting in the manual cars. Some of them bounce off the rev-limiter before it actually gets to redline. I would venture to guess that the same could be said for shift points in the autos.

It would be interesting if you could find someone with a similar model and swap out ECU's (or would it be the TCU for the tranny) just to see what it does.

Cool

I redline my car every 2000kms I can hit 6300-6500 on third... but of course the car shakes like something is going to happen , maybe I shouldn't do that too much heh...

I found the floor mat actually gets in the way of the throttle pedal stopper on the floor if it shifts around beneath your feet, and prevents you from reaching full gas (actually my g/f noticed that the pedal hit the "carpet" instead of the hard plastic stop when she was trying to overtake a truck - the car shifted earlier than expected and lost crucial momentum for a second or two).

With the carpet out of the way and the pedal on the floor stop, it should shift right around the redline (practically all modern autos do). But you should hear a definite "click" rather than a "thump" when you stomp on the gas.
