Post 2.5 L lifter noise

I am looking to buy a used legacyGT. 2 different cars have lifter noise with 40k miles each, is this a known problem, or am I hearing something else. Is there a fix?

It goes away once the car warms up. Turn violently from side to side & it should go away.

Sounds like the oil runs out of the heads, and turning slops oil up there??

Assuming it's not a 2000, a 2.5L Legacy GT would have solid lifters and thus would be quite noisy. Call your local Subaru dealer and get a quote on setting the valve lash (DOHC) and then subtract that from the selling price.
