Default Dual Ball bearing myths...

I heard something to the extend that the dual ball bearings after a hard run will continue to spin even 1 minute after shut off of the car...

I was told I have a dual ball bearing and I bought it fromt he Canadian distributor for garrett... I can hear nothing...

maybe more break in? or is my 13 psi on the GT30 too low to get it spinning hehheeh.. still pushes a lot of air...

fact or fiction?

My GT30R still spins a minute or 2 after the car is shut off. You can hear it winding down. Really neat effect.

Based on my experiances, it's fact.

Good question... I know the turbine is spinning cause you can hear it... but where the air goes it a great question.

Hola Kastillo (Kastle in spanish)

How's the GT30R in spooling time/rpms? How much boost? Would it be worth it to upgrade from a GT28?

I get full boost @ 2700rpm (10 psis) but goes down after 5700-5800. When running in 4th & 5th gears over 5700 the car drives almost like a NA car...

saludos,

Mariano

Past tense... Once Robert got the car apart, he realized there was no way to keep the fogs...

But it's that kit. GT30R, FMIC (27x14x2.5), Tial 38mm wastegate and Tial BOV... looks really nice... I should be getting the car back today, so I'm crossing my fingers that it runs...

RA motor still only has 160 miles on it, have had it since Jan in the car....

update --> talked with Robert about this today, he said that even though the turbine is spinning down, it doesn't create enough air pressure to amount to anything.

A turbo charger is not a positive displacement pump. It can spin (at low speeds) and not displace any or much air at all. Come to think of it, if it can keep spinning 1-2 mins after shut down, that would mean that it has a lot of inertia in the rotating assembly, this same inertia will prevent it from quickly changing speed during transient throttle operation.....which is probably not desireable for quick response. A ceramic turbine and compressor wheel assembly will definitely remain spinning for a shorter duration given the same conditions due to reduced rotating inertia.....just a thought....

A friend has a GT30/40 and he's timed off 1 minute 36 seconds from shutdown to stopping rotating.

My AVO450 goes for a good minute at least even from idle shutoff.
