Default Headunits with DVD Audio MP3 playback...

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone of the big companies is coming out with a headunit that plays back DVD audio in MP3 form so you could have 8gb of music, stored as data. Also do any headunits say the name of the folder rather than the number of the folder?

Thanks,
Mike

Talking Kenwood

A guy that I work with who is also helping on my install has a Kenwood DDX7015 . He said that he discovered that they can play MP3's off a DVD. He said that he didn't have any CD-R so he tried a DVD instead. I can't rememeber if it could the naming or not. I think he said it did. Well, once I get my KVT-915DVD in I'll be able to test it out myself. So far I know it can play DVD-R movies so I'm thinking it can also. Hope this helps.

mike...

I just confirmed this on his headunit that it can do the name of the folder. I can't wait to install mine!

The AVN2454 (previously mentioned in the thread as the AXV2454) looks to only have a lineout output voltage of .8 volts, this unit would probably not be sufficient for my tastes, as for me there was a significant difference going from even 2 volts to 6.5 volts with my current Pioneer.

The KVT-915DVD seems to be one of the better units out there, spec wise anyhow, at a 5 volt lineout output, and even has plenty of preouts for a 2-3 amp setup. I have never been a Kenwood fan in the past, but this unit even has a 24-bit D/A convertor. Could Kenwood be moving in a different direction?

Yeah, I can't wait for my install to be done with mine. I had a 911 but sold it so I can get this unit. I'll be sure to write a full review and take the pics also.

AFAIK every DVD player out there that has MP3 capability will play DVD MP3's ...

i have the cheapest of cheapest DVD players (Power Acoustik) and it plays DVD Mp3's ...

and trust me ... its not that great ... try browsing through 2000 songs in a car ... not really fun, im still running off a MP3 CD ... its enough tunes for me ...

the alpine 9835 displays the folder name, but does not read DVD's.

I'm one of those weird people who'd do mp3s on a DVD just to put half my collection in my car and never have to take it out(I have it playing on my computer at random anyways.
