Cool Knock Sensor

Does anyone know of another knock sensor for the 2.2 liter engine? I definitely have problems with it but I'm afraid there would be no difference if I got another from Subaru.

I hear tell you can put one in from a 2.5 engine... couldn't hurt to ask the local parts department guy.

The Subaru TSB on hesitation doesn't reccommend replacing the knock sensor, it reccommends replacing the ECU under warranty. That seems to imply its the filtering/listening circuitry that's at fault. The piezoelectric mic just picks up whatever its supposed to. It the ECU that's really over-reacting.

Do you know of a technical document online I can reference when I go to the dealer?

I also get a bad hesitation in my 98 OBS ever time I get the oil changed! They have looked at the car many times, and replaced a number of things....nothing helps. Where exactly is the knock sensor? I told them to put a little less oil in the car this time. After going for a test drive a few days later, the car had more oil than they put in. Not a good sign. However today they pressure tested the car, and everything seems fine according to them. Just to shut me up, they ordered a new pressure regulator.

a 6spd Manual

I have a 97 2.2
I too had annoying hesitation for the first week after every oil change, took it to many Subaru dealerships here in CT, every service manager/mechanic i spoke to said "They had never herd of such a complaint or of the service bulliten." Basically everyone thought i was crazy, but that really didn't do much to resolve my problem,

So i got a MY00' knock sensor.....(it has been slightly changed from the MY97' knock sensor) and replaced the knock sensor.

It has behaved nicely since, just an occasional slight hesitatation usualy the day after the oil change, is all i get.

The Knock Sensor cost me $42.36 and probably the worst 1/2 hour of my life....it's a real pain in the you know what to replace, due to it's location.

Hope this gives you guys another option

p.s. I was way past my 36k warranty, I highly doubt i would want to pay out of my own pocket for a new ECU!

I'm pretty sure someone mentioned this before...a lot of you where having this problem after changing oil.

What if filling the empty oil filter is causing the knock sensor create hesitation?

The next time some with hesitation problems changes their oil, fill the filter first and see what happens.
