what do you mean by 'actually work'?

the hood scoop is there to force feed air into a top-mount intercooler. if youve got a wrx hood and scoop, it might be cooling your engine down a little bit but theres not really much more you can do to that.

unless you go turbo

just take the backing plate off...its then a working scoop...but you will get dirt and other debris in the engine compartment...just leave it alone unless you get a turbo with a TMIC in there

boost yur engine unless yur like me and u get a fmic and render it somewhat useless

but yeah brad is right, just take the plate off. it'll essentially cool yur engine bay and maybe even cool yur airbox slightly. and brad is again right that yur engine bay is gona b dusty as hell (voice of experience )

oh yeah and one other thing. remember wutever u do with yur scoop, the stock scoops are very small and low and at higher speeds air will flow over rather than through and negate any effort u put into it. goodluck with wutever u do dude!

I saw a picture of a GC bodied Impreza that used the scoop to cool an oil cooler.

get yourself a top mount intake and put it under the scoop with a speedscreen to filter debris. Alot of ppl with RS's do this to make their scoop functional without a turbo, Im doing this myself to my 04OBS because a turbo will void the warantee which I love so much. Anyways- hope this helped~
