Default Apartments being blown up (terror fears)

Saw this on honda-tech:

I hope I don't get in trouble for informing everyone of this; however Iím going to use my rights as a US citizen to help fellow man. I bet I will get tapped for writing thisÖ
Someone I know owns a German specialists automotive shop. A Middle Eastern man came to get his car checked out before his drive to California from Seattle. The trunk was popped during the tune-up and many different state license plates were found. The shop employees got a little nervous, so they called the police. The FBI was dispatched right away once the police saw the plates. More investigation was done and maps with WiFi diagrams were drawn on top of large Seattle apartments were found in the car as well...

The FBI suggested this is ONE of MANY attacks being constructed. Apparently the terrorists rent an apartment, leave the gas running, then plant WiFi radios/access points, once they are away they are able to give the WiFi radio a strong enough spark to light the gas filled apartment. Being that Iím a network engineer I know this is possible. Many cases the WiFi access point doesn't need a client, just give a broadcast RF.

The man is being picked up by the FBI as I speak. I know this because I spoke with the people who found the plates.

He was going to set off MANY apartments at once then leave for California. He could even telnet to the WiFi access point from anywhere in the world if it was on a public network.
Not sure whether to go snope hunting for it or not...

Say, I'm not an IT expert or anything. What's the telnet command to make a NIC spark?

Easy there, tito.

Quote:
Two months later, in June of 2001, Padilla returned to Afghanistan and sought out Mohammed Atef. He met with Atef at a safe house that was reserved for the instructors and the leaders of al Qaeda. According to Padilla, about a month later, his mentor Atef asked him a question. He asked his American disciple if he was willing to undertake a mission to blow up apartment buildings in the United States using natural gas. Padilla told him he would do it.

Atef then sent Padilla to a training site near the Kandahar airport, where Padilla would train under the watchful eye of an al Qaeda explosives expert and be trained with the man who was to be his partner in this mission to destroy apartment buildings, another al Qaeda operative. When Padilla saw this other operative, he recognized him immediately because he had known him from Florida.

Padilla and the other operative trained under the guidance of this explosives expert and learned about switches and circuits and timers. They learned how to seal an apartment to trap the natural gas and to prepare an explosion using that gas that would have maximum yield and destroy an apartment building.

I like that this plan needed WiFi to work...

It's not like people haven't been hooking up phones to do this remotely for years.

Seriously... if terrorists want to blow up an apartment they don't RENT IT FIRST... they drop a bomb on it, plain and simple.

Also: terrorists don't care if they go down with the structure usually, getting away is the least of their concerns.

Needlessly complicated schemes get the Dr. Evil seal of disapproval.

yeah, don't they get 70 virgins or something when they die? Too bad it turns out all they want to do is cuddle and play video games...

The WiFi thing sounds like BS. Phones would be simpler.

A gas filled apt will probably not take down a whole building, though it will start a massive fire: so why not just douse it with gasoline if fire is the purpose?

Most terrorists aren't suicide bombers/killers. Most would rather live to commit additional mayhem.

Yep

Just like a liars lie if there are all kinds of twists & turns and super detailed then most likely the story never did/will happen.

Besides its easier to just drive a junker car into the side of a buliding loaded up with BBQ propane tanks as readily available at any gas station/supermarket/Home Depot/Costco and rig them to explode upon impact.

Not when you can buy a prepaid phone at 7-11.

Or steal one.

Or bring one from overseas.
