Default Stock Alt + Underdrive is bad, but what about HO + Underdrive?

It's known that our alternators can be maxed out just by turning on every accessory our car's come with. Adding a stereo just adds to that drain and in some cases maxes out the alternator.

Underdriving the above setup is not a good idea if you have an aftermarket stereo setup.

I'm wondering what you could do once you've upgraded to a HO alternator.

I'm moving from the stock 70a to a 160a alt. This is giving me 90 more amps to play with and my system probably only draws 40 at peak.

If this HO alt can push over 60a just at idle...and over 120a at 1500rpm...I wonder how it would handle being slightly underdriven..

120a at 1500 is 40a over stock's max and all I'd need as a peak drain.

Thoughts?

The GFB underdrive pulleys come with a smaller alternator pulley to keep it spinning at the same speed.

wouldn't you need a larger alternator pulley if you go with a smaller main pulley?

You may also experience (more) voltage drops at the lower RPMs as well.

I'm not really planning on underdriving anything...if I swap the pulleys, it'll be for lighter weight ones...

My engine already hits revlimit in 1 sec flat when not in gear. If I under drive it the rev's will drop faster than I can shift. I need big pulleys spinning =)

Be careful of overreving the alt if you get overdrive pulleys.
