Default 16X8 Wheels?

Does anyone make fairly light 16X8 wheels for the 2002 WRX sedan. I want to stick with 16" necause I bought this car used and it has a suspension on it that lowered it about 1 to 2 inches, so I don't want to have to worry about scraping. TIA

The appropriate tire for a 16x8 is a 225/50-16 which is almost exactly as tall as the commonly used 17" size: 225/45-17. The ride height will be almost the same, if you're talking about scraping driveways. If you're talking about scraping fenders, the profile of the tire and offset of the wheel will matter much more than the nominal size.

Im in the same boat about rim choices. I know that rota is making a 16x8 slipstream, and that is about it. There are others but cheap and that size seem to be fairly hard to find. . Tire rack lists nothing, but i know of some gram lights that fill that catagory, but they are all special order. the price is aslo an unkown factor.

Volk makes a GramLite 57 in a 16x8" fitment for a Subaru. Some folks here have them. With careful consideration of fitment and the right environment, a 245/45/16 can be used as well.

If your concerned whether a 17" or 18" wheel will cause rubbing, don't be. If you properly plus size, then you don't need to worry about the wheel/tire combo diameter being too different from the stock size. Theoretically you could go as high as a 24" wheel if you could find a tire with ~1" of total sidewall height (0.5" top and bottom - AFAIK no such tire exists) This calculator can show how I deteremined that.

You're more likely to cause problems with rubbing on the fender or strut or when increasing the width than you are when increasing the diameter. If you're careful with which tires you buy you should be okay though.

Neil.

as mentioned above, 17 fit nicely .You do need to do your math on tire size and offset. i had 17 rota formels with 225/45/17 (iIRC), very nice fit no rub ever. Rotas are not light weight though.

The gramlight is no longer offered in 16X8 , had a set w/ 245/45/16's and sold them when I got my wagon , now I'd like to get a set for my wagon to use w/ 225/50/16's- I've looked at the Volk TE's but the offest is a little low @ 42mm. I've looked at the slipstreams, but was wondering if there were any other options at all (BBS,SSR,Advan????).

TIA

Well answered a few of my questions- SSR does make the competetion in 16X8 (light too at 12.2 lbs) (5X100) but it is even lower offset than the TE @40mm . However it looks like Adavan offer the RG in a 16X8 at 46mm offset weighing in at a respectable 13.3 lbs
