Default I have a few questions...

The search engine has been "out of service" every time I've tried it this week. I picked up an 05 Baja Turbo this week and want to throw money at it. Can anyone tell me:

What brand(s) short shifter definitively fits the Baja? Which one is most popular with among Baja owners?

What is the model number K&N filter?

If you have the Subi tonneau cover, what do you think of it (fit, finish--that sort of thing)? It's cheap compared to the SnugLid, Penta and Ozzbros and I'm leaning that way unless spending 3X as much is a wiser option.

The K&N is the same as for the 03-04 legacy (turbo and non-turbo the same). I dont remember the part number off the top of my head, but I could look it up if you cant find it.

I have the factory installed tonneux cover. It works like a champ, its easy to open and close, but a pain to remove completely (I usually just tuck it under the plastic portion that runs between the chrome rails). Also, it does cut down on your ability to put tall items between the two rails because there is a plastic portion that is difficult to remove that goes there (you need a screwdriver to remove). I was annoyed at first, but found that my bed extender more than made up for that, and I have yet to really have a problem because of that. I am also pleased with how well it seals-- I have been through torrential downpours and the items in the bed did not get wet.

There is a factory subaru sti short shifter that seems like a decent bet as far as shifters go, and since subaru is very touchy with the warranties thats also a factor.

I would agree that for the money the factory cover works well. As for shifters you may want to check out the stage 1 drivetrain package from Cobb. I don't have it yet, but it looks good.

I have the cobb stage one drivetrain mod. I set it a little to short to start off with and need to actually lengthen the shift now to make it a little smoother, but overall I am glad I did it. Good luck.

I've been considering the same set up. Are you using the stock knob? Is there any problem using the stock boot? I'd like to get a Momo knob but I don't want to hassle with getting another boot and trying to make it all fit.

Yes I am using the stock knob and boot. I think it looks just fine, might upgrade to a weighted shifter someday.

ez bturbo,

does the factory tonneau cover lock? sounds like it's water proof as well? the price is definitely reasonable.

It does not lock, unfortunately. However, I looked in the parking lot at work at a bunch of truck covers, and none of them seem to lock either.

It is listed as water resistant. If I drive through the car wash though, the bed does not get wet, so its pretty close to water proof in my mind.

I am pleased with how it works, there have been several times now (last time at the gas station two days ago when some old guy came over and started talking to me about the baja) where I have opened the cover very quickly, shown how the bed extender works, and put everything back together in about a minute or so.

does it open the same way the snuglid does, on hinges? or do you have to take the whole thing off in order to put stuff in the bed?

the factory bed cover is vinyl and it rolls up to the bars and has a hard plastic pice between the bars and the cab.
