Default son of a!!! (busted bolt help)

so i finish putting on my aps tmic (again, after having y-hose leak issue)... im wrapping things up, and putting on my bypass valve again... and the damned ****ing bolt breaks. its the left one for the bypass valve, a 12mm. i still have a quarter inch sticking out of the i/c. since it was the first bolt i was easliy able to take the bypass valve off...

does anyone have ANY suggestions as to how im going to get this damned thing out? it seems too tough to torque with a pair of needle nose... and i dont want to strip the thing of all its thread. what do i do?!

Get a stud/screw/bolt extractor thing from Sears or elsewhere. You will drill a small hole in the center of the bolt, set the extractor in place and reverse it out.

And then in the future clean out crud from all areas a bolt is going to be put into and the bolt threads themselves and use a torque wrench to specs. <- not saying these were the cause, however they frequently can be and following this advice in the future can prevent this from happening again

Most locking plier sets of three include a needle nose in the set - the entire set would be worth having around. Kinda like BFH's never know when you will need it but when you do need brute force it is always nice to have.

That's pretty much my thought too... I know they sell vice grips in sets, one of them is usually small enough to grip what it sounds like you have.

I was gonna say also, see if you can drill through the center of the piece that's left (obviously not too big to get all of it out), and see if you can get a set of needle-nose or regular pliers to latch on and twist it back out.

if he can get a needlenose on it, then he should be fine..you should have vice grips in your tool box if you tinker...they are worth it.

If you cant then your only other alternative is to use the bolt extractor (you can get it any auto supply store)

Worse come to worse, hack a line right through the diameter with a hacksaw, and use a big flathead screwdriver

Agree and agree, most people who have encountered this situation have done both at one point or another. Just was putting up an alternative since the non-locking needle nose weren't working and in case it was due to insufficient material outside the hole.

Pep boys/Autozone/Straus/ has single pieces for like $8.99+

Hack it lightly, try the big screw driver trick...dont make the cut too big. just enough to get the screw driver in there.
