Default bald tires

I am buying a set of used rims and tires. However the tires are pretty bald. About 1 to 5 mm of tread left. will running more people in the car increase the chance of a blowout?

As long as the belts are not showing oyu should be ok, but you'll want to change them asap.

The direct answer to your question: Yes. With everything else equal, increasing the load makes it more likely to fail. How much more likely? That's a tougher question.

You can improve your chances with air pressure. Make sure it's well inflated. The worst thing you can do to a tire is put a bunch of weight in the car and then run it without enough air.
