Please keep track of how long it takes to make one from scratch if you would.

What color is the lock from the outside? It looks white in the picture...

If that first panel just press fits in....how does this all lock up? Can you just pull up on that piece..pry it up and your in?

Does this unit come with a protective bag to store the cover in if you have to take it off?

How much weight can this support? If a child crawled up and sat on top of it.........

Any other pictures of the car showing what it looks like all hooked up?

I also agree that the price is a little high............But maybe it will come down?

From cjoffe's statement I don't think it comes with any kind of bag to store it in.

The tailgate can also lowered without having to mess with the top when it's unlocked which is very handy:
I suppose plywood is somewhat stiff and can hold a few pounds. My snuglid is fiberglass and quite strong but I still wouldn't put anything heavy on it. It would support a small kid but I wouldn't try it. If you needed this lid to be stronger you could probally attach a few braces on the underside.

No bag. That would have been really nice for the price. The front piece does indeed just press in. If someone knew that, they could just pry it back out. Like I said... pretty good but not exacly a bank vault. The plywood is pretty stout but I wouldn't put a lot of weight up there. It would hold more with the gate closed, since it would be supported on three sides (not the middle, remember). The lock face on the outside is silver and looks very nice.

In then rain, water does seep in a bit around the edges. It's not water-tight, but this is a truck-bed we're talking about.

Even if you consider your time is worth McDonalds wages, I bet you can't make one for less than $500 (assuming that you keep track of your time as a cost).

cjoffe, how has the cover been holding up? Any change of opinion now that you've had it 6 months?

Default Soft camper top!

I am with whomever said they would not get a lid, for the simple reason that is takes too much utility away.

Now, if you were to make a "soft" top for the Baja I would be first in line. Make the frame structural and loadable too. Give it zip out side curtains. Let the whole thing slide up and fold up across the top of the "spert" bars, and I am definitely in.

For reference check out a Can-back top.(Too bad they are gone now.)

The lid cjoffe bought is easily removed and can be stored in the backseat if necessary. Hence it looks interesting to me.
