Unhappy Losing Faith in Subaru

to be God honest folks im a subaru obsessionist.. all i talk about is Subaru and ever since we got our 99 OBS ( with 125000 miiles) in april we've been paying every day since..

bought it for about 6900, then on the 1st day the fuel pump went out and ended up payin another 600 dollars for the fuel pump.. now the indicators went out (the mechanic said someone messed with the wires) and that piece is gonna cost 500$ also.... im a soob fanatic while this being our 2nd subaru my parent are losing faith in Subaru.. i keep on reinsisting it was the past owner who mustve abused the car.. what do i do i see a 1999 subaru legacy with 123000 miles in the paper for 4999 is it worth a shot the dad doesnt think so what do i do?? get rid of the one we have and sell it for the legacy or just enjd of getting something like an acura integra which is supposed to be "reliable" wat do i do!!?? heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllppp

its got to be the past owner!

no seriously, its a car with 123,000 miles! those are simply "wear items" that you have to change over time. All cars will need to have those replace soon or later. Don't let that steer you away from Subaru!

I agree, it's probably do to lack of care by the previous owner, although those things do wear out eventually. Think about it this way..the previous owner probably didn't want to take care of the car anymore and passed it on to you...problems and all. If it continues to give you trouble, get rid of it and find a lower mileage one. I'm sure you can pick up one alot cheaper than what you paid. Check around...you'll find one. Make sure you get the maint. records and have it checked out before you buy it.

If the fuel pump went out the day you bought it, I don't think that was a coincidence!!

You're surprised parts have worn out over the course of 125,000 miles?

Sucks that things went wrong, but all those problems are things you could have fixed for under $100.

But like everyone else said, 100K + things like that happen. I had a 1988 Subaru GL wagon that I got rid of with 310,000 on it, it had problems, but it didn't make me lose faith in anything.

I had my transmission shatter on my 2004 Forester XT at 12,000 miles, stuff happens, its a car, just be thankful it was something easy like that. I still have faith in Subaru and if thats all you have to complain about then you should too.

123k, 160k aren't that far apart. I think you might want to look into a new mechanic, but if you stick w/ the OBS you have now, I don't think it will be any less reliable than an Integra or Camry or whatever.

My girlfriend's had 2 subarus one @ 270k, one at 190k, and they're both still on the road, and they don't have any real serious issues. She's spent maybe $200/year on upkeep.

Keep your head up, and learn a little bit about maintence, you'll be fine.

for $4999.99 you get a really sweet engine swap w/way less miles and in some cases that would include labor. And don't forget a Walbro fuel pump should run, prolly $100 right there. It seems like you got ripped a little by your mechanic.(no offense it happens to everyone at least once.)

Then don't bring it there. Post in your local forum, find a good local mech/friend.

You really need to find a better service tech, simply put, you're getting screwed, you may never have had any of those problems if those guys has properly serviced the car first.

dont keep getting cars with high mileage... if u can afford a $5000 legacy, use that money to put down on a new wrx or an older one with low miles.. i only had 1700 to put down and am paying 300 a month for my 03 wrx.. and im a 19yr old w bad grades... lol....
