Question Exhaust for 97 Legacy GT

I'm looking for an exhaust for my 97 Legacy GT Sedan that will increase power and NOT be too loud. I'm thinking of the Prodrive Legacy Saloon Muffler.
http://www.prodrive-usa.com/product...cid=5&pid=12&s=

Think it is a good idea? Do you know where they sell that? I can't seem to find it.

Have ideas on other exhausts? I'm all ears.

Thanks everyone

I recently bought the Subaru "Performance Muffler" by Bosal directly from the Subaru parts department at my local dealer. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't have a gift certificate for $100 from my Subaru/Chase credit card but I am very happy with it. It probably gave me about 5 hp and it looks great. The sound is very low and barely different from stock but it sounds real throaty when the RPM's are up. Not ricey at all. Here is a link to a picture and a bit of info about it on Subaruparts.com:

http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=491

By the way, '2.5 GT' is etched on the tip instead of 'SPT'. It looks very nice.

I did a custom 2.25" cat back w/ gen 4 borla headers, a resonator, and a Apex'i mini N1. The sound is pretty nice(not ricey at all). Not overwhelmingly lound, but it added some nice power.

Wow, I think I'd need a second job in order to duplicate those mods! Maybe I'm just too used to being on a budget.

hey I did the same thing except I used a Magnaflow Muffler. It's nice a deep and rumbly down low...

The total cost for my header back exhaust system was about $600 US installed. This includes the price of parts, shipping, taxes, duties, custom piping, ect. I did it as I could afford it, so it wasn't very bad at all.

Hmmm, I may be interested in your cat-back, Ken. I've been thinking about trying something other than the cheap-o MRT muffler for a while, just have never gotten around to it.

As for recommendations, Gasaraki, I have the full MRT exhaust system on my '97 2.5GT - headers, hi-flow cat, and cat-back. Altogether I spent probably around $900 on it, which includes shipping, cutting the cat off the headers and adding a flange in between, and having the headers metallic-ceramic coated. The cat had to be flanged so that I could have the headers coated inside and out.

Pics:

http://www.submariner.org/thepno95/P...ls-rearqtr.jpg (not the greatest, but gives an idea of the tip size/position)

The system gained 14 dyno-proven horsepower at the peak on an otherwise stock car, about 18hp at redline. Sound is quite nice, not that loud at all. Someone who was looking for boy racer sound would be disappointed, but I think it's just about perfect for my tastes and for the persona of the car.

IMHO $400+ bucks for an axle-back is kinda outrageous. Look into a custom exhaust shop. I was quoted $290 for an entire cat-back w/ resonator.

my $.02

I was hoping that was just recommended retail price and that places online would actually charge alot less. But I can't find anyone that has it.

I also have the MRT - just the axleback though, and it does sound very nice. Burbly down low, but when you really get on the gas it doesn't seem as loud as most other aftermarket exhausts.

Most subaru specific systems that are made by reputable companies are over 400 for a cat back... not sure what your local muffler shop will build one for, but here are some other possible prices.

Brullen catback $600
Cobb Catback 605
stromung 530+

like i said, i was quoted like $290 - $300 for a cat back.
they use magnaflow, flowmaster, and bullet mufflers. he said i could choose from a ton of them. sure i dont think the quality/craftsmanship compares, but for 50% cheaper, it might be a good alternative.

just an opinion. hey, i'm still stock so i cant have too big a soapbox....

Several people have said good things about having a local shop build up a system. and yes for half the cost it may be a great deal... anyone with that experience want to say something about it?
