we are a block away from west seattle HS and kids use our side street all the time to avoid lights. They put in a traffic circle but the blocks so long that hs kids can really tear down the street. my neighbor got tired of little hondas doing 60mph down our block and he corralled one against the curb one day with his contractors POS pickup....told the kid Hey punk not in our neighborhood and we have had relative peace ever since. Of course summer break helps too.

I agree. Why would you even think about reaching inside someone's car to pull the keys out of the ignition? Yeah, it works in the movies but they have a script to follow. Sorry to hear he got hurt.

For one.. I'm not sorry to hear he got hurt, it means he didn't get killed. He's lucky he didn't get shot, or the driver/passengers in the car didn't react more violently than to try to drive off. To reach inside someones car, hollywood style, as they're about to take off is tantamount to suicide. I don't agree with street racing in residential areas, but jeezus, what was he thinking? Just my .02

He's a contractor mang, no a diplomat!

It would've been smarter to take pictures or video, or even just write down license plate numbers or something.

Yeah the first thing you do in any situation involving cars is to get license plate #s. That's even better than someone's ID.

The Fines said they plan to talk to neighbors about the possibility of requesting that the city install speed bumps or turnabouts on the street.
Fire departments usually stop speed bumps from happening...

Seems like maybe it should be more than a misdemeanor?

Just think "IF" the car he walked up to belonged to a dealer or some other "unsavory" character.....there are a lot of CWPs in WA state.

i think he was referring to his kids sleeping and being awaken by the noise.

i myself havent steet raced in a long time. when we did street race it was in an area where there nobody could get hurt. (dont get me wrong i'm not saying street racing is ok) but back then people where cautious about street racing. you didnt race in residential areas only out in the back country.
back then most cars weren't as fast as these imports today and once you past the quarter mile mark you slowed down. a few months ago i was out cruising around and came up on a group of street racer and i watched a couple of races, i was shocked to see how little respect kids have of speed. you had two cars racing down the street on one side, then on the other side of the road you had some guy racing back down the road after he raced. talk about having a bad head-on if someone should loose controle, then i watched two guys race and not one of them let up after a quarter mile they must have raced 1/2 mile + at over 120 mph. after seeing that i left.

yeah and this section of beach dr sw is basically a residential neighborhood...with half million dollar homes on one side and multi-million dollar waterfront homes on the other. Only about a 1/2 mile of it is smooth...the rest is cracked crappy pavement that they probably leave that way because it will rattle the fillings out of anyone who has coilovers

he'd have been best off getting video and turning them in that way.

shame he got hurt but i dont blame him
he's probably sick and tired of this b.s.

and fwiw once i did something similar... pulled the keys out of a drunk drivers car after he'd parked it in the middle of the road... cant say i blame the guy for thinking along those lines

video's are great. at my old house in mill creek i got the neighborhood kids (about 6-8 of them) on video on top of the rental house next door ripping shingles and vents off the roof while it was vacant for 3 weeks.

I called the cops and they were not to interested in even hearing about it until I told them I got it all on tape. They got over in a hurry to pick up the tape.

Video is the best way to stop them. The kids parents were all rounded up and shown the video. No getting out of this one.

I know exactly how this guy feels. I had the same thing with my old house. After I moved into this house that was surrounded by woods, they tore down and cleared the lots and built duplexes all around me. The slummers in those units had 3-4 cars each and would let cars idle for hours talking to friends and partying till 4 in the morning. Cops would never come in time. Also teenagers walking home from school would bang on my fence every day. One day I came home and they stole all my new fence boards for a tree house a block away. Cops did nothing. After telling this one kid (16 250lbs) to stop banging the fence with a stick every day I caught him doing it again and I clubbed him from the back yard with a night stick. He and his father came over and I laied out all that had happened. The kid thought he was going to get me in trouble but his dad bent him over right there and gave him a bare ass beating.

I could have gone to jail but I know how this guy felt and why he took action. It is just Max's thinking that makes the kids now days think they can get away with anything and feel they owe nothing to anyone. No respect. The guy should have brought a bat out and bashed on the cars. I'd like them to report that on him.
