Default Final Costs for your swap?

Just wondering what the final costs were upon completion of your engine/tranny swaps guys...i'm particulary interested in those with ver7/8 jdm sti and 6spd tranny swaps...I'm debating whether to sell my 99 rs within the next year and get a 05/06 sti or keep my car and save for a motor/tranny swap...thanks

got bored of my 2003 wrx and didnt want to dump tons of money into the engine/turbo upgrades since the tranny would eventually fail so i sold wrx for 18500

bought 99 RS for 10,000
bought version8 sti engine/6speed/driveshaft/rearend/everything for 8500, add misc. costs, tools, bolts, extra parts,

total around 19,000

i too was going to get an 04 sti awhile ago, but i just didnt want to spend 100% of my paycheck on the payments and have no money for life.

WRX short block, stock turbo x2, and stock intercooler $400
WRX pistons .50 over $130
EJ22t heads $80
WRX wiring harness $300

They pop up around private sale forums or even on auctions, or other web sites for that much. Its rare, but it happens.

96 Impreza - 2500
03 WRX (wrecked) - 3000
Misc parts - 100

So, total is 5600, not including suspension mods. Basically, I've got a complete 03 WRX in an older shell.. it's got new everything.. engine, tranny, axles, diffs, brakes, seats, dash (such a pain!), and everything else between the headlights and taillights.
If I could just finish it.. hopefully this week.

These prices don't seem so bad, but how many of you have done the swap yourselves and how many have paid? The labor for an engine swap must tack on at least another $1-2K, right?
I've already got the old Impreza, and I am getting sick of the weak engine and dying transmission, so all I need now is a wrecked WRX...

This thread is getting me pumped up. I just might be able to get my dream car running for about 10G's (whatever my SVT is worth).
My plan:
shell ~ 1000
suspension ~ 2000
driveline ~ leaving about 6-7000

You really wanna sell your SVT Contour? maybe you should sell your RS. OF the three cars you've got listed, that's the one I'd sell. Especially if you're going to use the proceeds to build another suby. Seriously...

I paid 900 for a '93 wagon- paid 15000 for a version 7 drivetrain including labor for the swap at LaChute, another 2k for 4 pots, legacy turbo rears, and a version 5 suspension (all the parts). So about 18k all in.

$6000 1993 impreza "L" with full suspension and rims
$7000 complete Version 3 front clip (with 4 pots, skidplate etc)
$700 labour for motor swap
$550 JDM GC8 STI exhaust
$200 Propshaft/rear driveshaft (used to be an auto)
$400 misc items

Total = $15,200 (In CANADIAN dollars) = $11,250 USD

I was on a 15K CND budget for the swap... worked out pretty well.

Pretty good deal for a 12 second car if you ask me.

Are those prices US? How long ago was that? Honestly those prices are disgusting. Why did you pay so much? You should have paid about half of that. Not trying to be mean.
