Default mbc/ebc and peak boost in lower gears?

on a stock turbo sti w/tbe, ported wg is it advisable to run higher boost in lower gears (1&2)?
buddy of mine with an evo (who pulled on me stock for stock, another story but it does make my right to post questionable) is installing an mbc and says he is runnin 19psi in 1st & 2nd and 21psi in 3rd - 5th.
this sounds neck snapping to me, but i was wondering if sti guys are upping their boost significantly in lower gears as well on stock turbo?

if you really want to beat him the right way, i'd say get a utec or other EM and get it tuned. i don't think just ramping up the boost will benefit you, or your engine, down the road.

just my .02cents

agreed...
i am not looking to run an mbc or ebc and crank it up like that.
i have cobb ap stg 2 right now.
i was just curious if guys in sti's with boost controllers had turned up the psi in similair fashion?
i know the 4g63 may take a bit more boost than ours, but i'm not lookin to go that route.
