Default Air filter being dirty?

I just had my oil changed at 7500 miles and my oil filter was dirty with black oily dirt. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? My car is basically stock for now besides a BOV. Any suggestions on what could cause this would be appreciated.

color doesnt indicate oil wear. only oil analysis can do that.

oil is supposed to blacken a little....if you are worried....change the oil and filter every 3000 miles....and check your oil occasionally....

and for future reference don't be so damn vague...

Am I missing something here? Air filter is in the title, but we are talking about oil filters???? I'm guessing just a typo..

I know with my little HPI RS4 nitro car, the instructions for my air filter say that a little dirt on the air filter can actually help the air filter do it's job better. I have no idea if that applies to real cars.

I would follow the owners manual guidelines to be safe.

Ok i was surfing the net and saw a pcv valve replacement part it saus replacing it would reduce oil consumption, and prevent air filter contamination. So could this be the problem I have a bad pvc valve? I dunno. Maybe. Any ideas?

Reading through the service manual, if the PCV is stuck close, I imagine it would force all the blow by gas coming out of the crankcase into the Air Intake Duct and could dirty up your air filter on the clean side (side facing the MAF). That blow by gas is supposed to be going into the Intake Manifold via the PCV to get burned up with the A/F mixture. The only time this gas is supposed to go into the Intake Duct is at WOT when there is not enough vacuum in the intake manifold to fully open the PCV. At WOT, I would think that this gas would be forced towards the throttle body instead of your air filter.

Maybe someone with a BOV could provide more input about how an aftermarket BOV effects the vacuum in the intake manifold. If there is not enough it may not be fully opening the PCV. No matter what, I imagine it would be difficult to get the PCV replaced under warranty if they see that BOV.

It is normal. You will always get that, because of what lightbringer said.. it's from the PCV and that's what the hoses going into your inlet hoses are for.

Pull your intercooler off, and look at the throttle body. Check for oil just sitting there, and also check inside your intercooler for oil. If there is oil there, then you have blowby, and if it's alot then you got a big problem.

It doesnt sound like you have a problem. As long as the dirt is on the dirty side of the filter and there is no oil sitting in your intercooler its normal.

If it is excessive blowby. But that is not entirely clear. He said his air filter is dirty but he did not mention which side.

I'll bring and donate a can of brake cleaner to the shop day, and we can find out and do MAF cleanings for all!

My air filter was dirty all the way through the filter on both sides. But it was heavier on the top side.

And I wouldnt think it was normal after 7500 miles on the car. And really the filter got that way in less than a week. I looked at my air filter a week prior to me getting the oil change. That is why I am wondering what is going on.
