Question NJ DMV inspection blues

Tried to have my '00 impreza rs inspected this afternoon in Paramus,NJ. Everything passed EXCEPT for my loud exhaust. I have the borla ss headers, randomtech cat, stromung ss catback system. My question is does anyone know of any private inspection facility that is enthusiast -friendly in NJ? Any response is appreciated.

I guess NJ is adapting how things are done in CA.

They don't test for dB, my M3 had just a catback and the manager of the Westfield MVS inspection station told me it was too loud. I asked how she knew and she responded with "we just know." She also mentioned that you can't have anything that's not stock on the car.

It's nice to see that nothing has changed in the Kriminals Republik of Soviet Jersey.

My family still lives there, and I hear all kinds of stories about DMV and all that goes with it.

Well, here's a positive Dirty Jerz DMV story. I bought my car in January 02 and due to some change in DMV rules, my car will not be inspected until Jan 06.

OMGHi2U private inspection in Paramus

Try C & R Texaco on Forest Ave (@ Spring Valley Rd.) in Paramus. Licensed NJ state inspection station. Ask for Ron.

They did a motor swap and other work for me on an AMC Eagle 4wd project car a few years ago. The rebuilt tended to run pretty rich, but never failed.

Oh yeah, and Westfield failed our CL for no shift pattern present and also for having air horns. So, while I put one of the stock horns back in and unplugged the air horns, my wife drew a shift pattern on a post it note and pasted it on the dash... they looked at us funny when we brought it back, but we passed.

Good deal.. that's a whopping 5 minutes away from me. I never even see people at that place; I thought it was an abandoned shop!

Same thing happened to me in Montclair. They just said it was too loud, no specific db level. The manager said he would pass me if I got rid of my headers. I told him I don't have headers and he said he would do a paper test. I cannot for the life of me understand this test. He put a piece of paper over the exhaust and said if there were no headers then there would be no noise. There was noise so he said I must have headers ???? Anyway, I just went back the next day and told them I got everything fixed (even though I did nothing) and they passed me. I guess I did a good job removing my imaginary headers.

I just called to verify that C & R Texaco in Paramus is open for biz Monday thru Saturday, inspection appointment recommended but not necessarily required.

damn i have them too! but my inspection isnt due for a while

i thought that Texaco was closed down ever since they took away the pumps. Every time i drive by i usually dont see anyone there. Ill have to remmeber that. This is the same gas station that has a little garden in the back of it right? Pretty weird seeing that. what about spilled gas that leaches into the ground?

Sorry for laughing, but PAPER TEST!?!?!?! You should ask that guy if he also knows the Alla-Kazam magic wand test. Jeezez. Only in NJ.

Oh, and Westfield also failed my M3 for having too many brake lights (aftermarket rear wing with LED in conjunction with the CHMSL in the cabin). How are you WRX guys getting passed? I seem to remember that the rear wing lights up with the one on the rear deck as well.

No there's only one harness that plugs either into the wing or the light on the rear deck. So it's one or the other.

Yeah, I think for the 03, if you have a factory spoiler, it doesn't have the in cabin 3rd brake light.

I can't believe they wouldn't let you pass inspection with their own opinion about the car. I did read about the shift pattern though, which is required.
