Question Fresh (hot) air versus air conditioning?

I'm curious as to why I see so many Subaru drivers driving around with their window open, even in Texas heat (like today), when virtually everyone else has their windows closed with AC blasting.

Is it because:
a) Subaru drivers love the great outdoors, even if it's HOT
b) Subaru air conditioning sucks
c) So they can wave to other Subie drivers
d) All of the above
e) None of the above

Just curious. I've seen this on all manner of Subies, so it's not just the turbo guys wanting to hear their BOVs.

For that extra 5 HP and that low end grunt.

Actually, I turn my AC on cold when I drive.

I usually have mine down because I like having the extra oomf the AC robs. Also , Im so used to shifting without the A/C on. it feels like the RPMs fall off a bit faster and my shifting all of a sudden isnt so smooth. Being a little warm is an okay trade off for a little extra go.

From the drive home from work, it was too stinkin' hot, so I pimped the A/C, but went on a small cruise later in the evening, windows down. Just depends on the mood and temperature, I s'pose.

Yeah, turning AC off does make a big difference in power. But it also keeps me cool, so I use it.

on the freeway it is 50/50 windows down ruin the aerodynamics enough to make the ac the same drag on the system, at that point it is about gas mileage. I leave the AC on.

slow speeds (non-freeway driving) I'll roll the windows down, it really isn't THAT hot. and with that nice hot humid disgusting breeze blowing on my face it is very refreshing. makes me appreciate the air conditioned buildings all that much more.

besides, it is cool to walk into a building with a big sweat mark on your back, it screams pimp...

Horsepowa

But, if I don't park in the garage all day, I have to use the A/C or my skin starts to melt into the lovely black/blue weave.

It's usually up and AC on because I hate smelling the darn exhaust from both myself and other drivers

That's in traffic anyways...it's only down at night driving home when I smell like smoke from hanging out in the bars...otherwise it's always up and AC on, unless I need the extra oomph, which isn't often.

i like to sweat, it clenses the body and mind. and if you stick your head out the window, its kind of like riding a bike...so i am more aware of what is going on around me.

<----Drive a black car so it is damn hot when I go to lunch so the A/C is always on. Not worried about it robbing horsepower or the gas mileage. If its hot its always on! My first 3 cars had no A/C so now it is greatly appreciated.

I hate driving my car with the AC on, it bogs down a lot more, and my gas mileage goes down. But in TX during the summer, you just have to use it.

I've learned that a turbo AWD car in 100+ degree heat is not a happy car.

Simple answer, when you floor it, the AC is cut off anyway. Since most of us probably drive that way, it just blows hot air (hotter then outside), so turn it off!
