Neon lights for interior?
Hey all.
I don't know if this is considered "ricey" (nor do I care ), but do any of you have neon lights *inside* your cars? Maybe near the floor or under the seats? I've always liked the looks, but I'd like some info about it first. Things like cost, ease/difficulty of installation, fragility, etc... Thanks, J. Kent 99 RS Rally Blue

Yeah it's usually deemed ricey, but I've known a few people to have them (not in RS's). The novelty of them seems to wear off within 2-3 months, actually. My own personal opinion goes against anything that'll make me that much more blind at night... lol

Don't have any nor do I personally like the look, but you should be able to get some from local stereo shops. They're self-contained units that vary from 10" to 4' long and run off of 12 VDC. They're easy to install...simply velcro them in place, run the wires to a fuse/power distribution block (about $25 at any auto parts store) then run a new DC line directly through the firewall to the battery (behind the clutch pedal).
Figure three hours of install time, pulling up the carpets to make the install look clean. It's not difficult at all...those lights are pretty heavy duty and are designed to be mounted under the car. Just don't do an AutoX or RallyX with the stuff hooked up. Trunkmonkey is here! There is no cone... We have them in our other car. Blue neon tubes under the seat makes for a very soothing glow at night. They were pretty much free from carparts.com after their $50 off $150 coupon.
Oh, actually I do have a pink neon tube in the trunk of my RS since it doesn't have a real trunk light. You know, STi pink. |

Good goly! 8c's at 6000 post!
OK "haa haa!" ain't really words. More like an expression of sound. BTW, I think they are ricy. Best reserved for them Golfs and corrados. Oh civics too. But hey, if you think they are nice go ahead. |
