Thumbs up Run open hood vents without worry

If you have been reluctant to remove the block-off plates on your hood vents, this is a 15 second way to block them off each time it rains. Go to a shop where they make the smooth magnetic signs for the sides of vehicles and pick up the thin magnetic material they make these signs out of. Remove hood vent and make a template of the hole. Then add a couple of inches around the template. Cut material. Replace open vent in hood. You can have this material painted to match your car and noone will see the seams in heavy rain or add decals for a custom look. Remove when nice out, stick on when raining. I have not done this to mine yet, but I thought of it after reading so many posts about weather worries.

Or you can just put the hood vent spacers in there and drop the vent down enough to let out the hot air but keep the rain out. I know NickCat sells some that he has nicely machined and I have a how to make your own on this page under vent spacer mod.

Cost me very little and all of 15 min to do. They work very well. It's sort of a set it and forget it mod.

Just another way of doing the same thing I guess. Always good to have options.

I've been running with out covers for 3 months now and have had NO problems. I might bolt the plate back in for winter to prevent salt from getting in. Won't the magnetics blow off and down on the engine?
