Default UTECH wiring and application question

Ok so the Utech is quickly becoming teh awesome.

My question is: What is it that makes the UTECH compatible or not compatible with a certain ECU? It is essentially a piggyback unit with a plug and play adaptor passing all wiring through.

I can't find a feature of the UTECH that would cause it to only work for a specific car. Maybe the ability to raise the revlimiter - thats internal or the crank angle sensor for timing, but what else causes the UTECH to actually communicate with the ECU?

Does it have its own boost solinoid? If so I really can't see a reason why it least the major features like Airflow modification / OLF and timing changover / timing control / knock control / and boost control wouldn't work for just about any car that it could read crank angle, TPS, MAF, MAP, Knock, and timing from. and all those things can be calibrated internally for different cars.

The emanage has various settings for you to tell it what kind of MAF you have / TPS scale / injector sizes so it can be setup for different cars. It seems to me that the difference between the Emanage and UTECH is really just knock, crank angle, and boost input + better and more complicated programming.

I have recently done a ton of wiring at my ECU making my Emanage / J&S / Zeitronix WB / Blitz Dual SBC plug and play, and I was thinking I essentially created a similar system to a Utech, (obviously less functionality but still similar.. and cheaper with used parts) why couldn't I or anyone with sufficient knowledge in wiring reverse engineer a WRX harness on the UTECH and install it on something else???

what is different in the STI UTECH??

what is the breakdown for different subaru engines and similar crank andgle sensors???

please enlighen me! -

Todd

i don't think anyone has tried to fit a utec into say a dodge, for example.

that may be why you're not get responses!

generally, though, you're right. there's nothing really special about one car's sensors vs. another's, other than pin assignments at the harness, and perhaps range of values and proportionality (which can be quickly taken care of in the software). thus the EVO utec is probably SUBSTANTIALLY the same as the subie UTEC.

edit: i should also point out that obviously a MAF based car will have much different algorhythms than a speed-density based car, but essentially they both need to know the # of air molecules going into the cylinders, and they need to fire the injectors accordingly.

My piggyback system for my RS is pretty much done, but Utec seems like a prettty sweet idea for other 99RS people w/ MAF. Anyone wanna buy a Utec and let me mess with it on your car? I'll rewire it for ya!?

if you're careful and have the right pin extraction tools, there's no reason why it can't be done *very* cleanly, making it plug and play.

one thing you have to keep in mind.. there's no positive manifold pressure on the rs.. so you may need to make sure that the load column reference can be mapped down into the -ve MRP region.
