Default Best Tuner Suburu is.....?

I am looking for a car to tune as a hobby. I kinda missed being in the right generation for this as I am 45 years young.

I am an amature (I would guess). I have an '87 Honda Civic that I have done a few mods on like springs/shocks, brakes, intake, etc., and it has been lots of fun.

I feel like I'm ready to get more serious and am doing some research on what car I should start with. My criteria would have as an important priority the ease of making mods. I recently changed the water pump on our Infiniti G20, which has the popular SR20 engine, and will consider death by torture before I did THAT again. One almost has to pull the engine to change the dang thing. In terms of cost, my top is probably around $5k.

So....the question after all this rambling: In looking at the various Suburu's, which makes the best tuner that most resembles my criteria and why?

I really appreciate any help here. I've always felt like Suburu's were quality cars, so feel its right there near the top in models to consider.

ok I will bite since it is your first post.

1st the word "tuner" is associated with a person who is knows how a engine works and how to use engine management to maximize said engine.

so your question is what is the easiest subaru (under 5k) to modify?
