Post Painting brake calipers

Do you have to take the calipers apart to paint them, or can you do it with just the wheel removed and the rest of the brake covered up? If so, how long does it take, and what tools are involved? Do the brake lines need to be bled?

Wink

If you use Foliatec you don't have to take it all apart.. it's a brush on... and you can simply remove the caliper, "let it hang" and brush on the paint...

do a search for Foliatec for some good application notes...

the paint can be purchased at:
www.strictly-foreign.com

I painted mine with ALOT of newspaper and no bleeding. Just make sure you're inside or its a calm day. It took much longer to take the wheels off and on than paint them. I'm not sure its neccessary but I used engine (high heat) paint. Good Luck!

Oh yeah, I used spray paint.

you must have gotten the Japanese paint that i got... used it before... took 2-3 coats and a weekend to dry... for sure...

that paint chips - wore out/faded quickly and at $20 a can... (can is sooooo tiny - you will need at least 2) not worth it...

next up for me is Foliatec!

I used the 1200 deg flat red paint as a base and then like 600 deg or something like that as a top paint. Its been on there for about 2 years. NO chipping whatsoever. In the Pic they look kind of faded, its because they're dirty. I used Mothers polish on them and now they look like they just got painted.

Question

Pinoy,

I don't want to get off topic here but: Can I get the some information for the paint used on the body of the car. I have been thinking about repainting mine, the factory paint has been disappointing (durability-wise) since day 1. I love that color!

Thanks,
Josh

Just to add my $.02

I bought HIGH Heat (1500f) Black Semi Gloss spray paint from local auto parts store, I forget the brand.

Anyway, I took off a wheel, cut some cardboard to cover the rotor and sprayed!

Did one at a time, took less than an hour and drove away when I was done.

It's been 3 months, many miles & even a Trackday (brakes got very Hot)

Still look good & only for $5.00.....Good Luck!

Pinoy, have you posted the details on removing the door handles anywhere? Y'know, where the solenoids are mounted, how they're activated, where we might get some etc. I'd be very interested in learning how this was done. It looks GREAT!
TIA
