Fog light mod... Whose done it and my recent discovrey.
Well today in the cold I did the fog light mod found in the Modifications
section. I noticed that with the factory alarm... if the fog switch is depressed that the fogs now flash along with the parkers!! looks pretty sweet. My fog switch went out too. I'll take a pic of it later this week maybe. Tell me if you've done it and any other querks you noticed.

yeah, they will flash with the parking lights... and that's not really good for them. i'd make sure i turned off the switch every time you get out of your car. By having them blink a lot, you'll shorten their life significantly... just my 2 cents

omahasubaru: did you disconnect your battery before attempting this mod? I heard a person or two say that they still have their switch after the modification, and that was because they disconnected the juice.

I didn't dis-connect the juice 'cause I needed the light, my garage isn't the ideal work place. Any chance to get it back??
ECU reset?? Thanks. |

The little bulb is not broken. You just disconnected the juice to it. When you cut the lead to splice into the dash illumination you disconnected its power source. Do a search in the tech forum around the beginning of the year for 'fog lamp mod 2' or something along those lines, I wrote up how the switch works.

yeah, i disconnected the juice, and the switch only works when the headlights are on. I know that it can be corrected by more rewiring, but it just hasn't been that important to me yet. but PK, you say it's written up somewhere?

Bret Jensen originally posted it back in '99, I was able to find it earlier in the year, and I posted a link to it once. I can't find that post, guess it has been deleted. Anyway, the switch has five occupied leads, and they each play a role in actuating the foglamps. Contact Jesse Mullan (see the Minnesota members list), I think he has complete diagrams for the switch and various wiring diagrams.

How long did this take to do? I've been putting it off for too long.

i have a MY00 RS coupe and did both the High beam w/ fog light mod, and the parking lights w/ fogs mod. in that order a few weeks apart. after the parking light w/ fogs mod, my fog switch light is out. i knew it was going to happen so not a disappointment, i just enjoy the light. especially highs w/ fogs.
(i did disconnect the juice too, still went out) to really get the full effect of the parking lights w/ fogs, i will need some super bright yellow fog bulbs so i can keep my headlights off in inclement weather. that is the full intended purpose of this mod right? so there is no white light to bounce of precipitation, just super bright yellow light cutting through the fog. am i mistaken? justin [This message has been edited by joostin420 (edited November 07, 2000).] |
