I wouldn't tell you even if I knew and I do ... very bad idea. Don't think anybody will touch that one.

I'll second that.... I don't know anyone who would be doing that... Its one thing to make your car go faster and be less safe, but its another thing to be suicidal!
If you want to take out the passenger side airbag, thats another story....The japanesse version of the car uses that space as a nother glove box... you could store so much crap in your car that way! But I dont think any of the US guys have a clue how to that mod. Anyone got suggestions on that one? -Kevin |

Easy...
I'll tell ya... cos I'm a rebel... Assuming its the same as newer cars. Disconnect the battery... leave for a while.. As for the steering wheel... there are two torx screws (one at each side, resessed in) behind the wheel... simply loosen them off.. Then the airbag will pull off the wheel... unplug it... The controller is in the base of the centre console... will have yellow conduit going to it.. simply unplug it.. that removes the controller. Pull the fuse out of the fuse box for the SRS system... and ya done... J. ps - Take out health insurance... for when you remove it.. and drive without it.. |

I don't understand what people have against the removal of air bags... Cars didn't have air bags for like 90 years before all this. Besides, an air bag is in no way, shape, or form a replacement for a SEAT BELT.

i removed my airbags..
its very simple the only problem is the locking torx bolts.. you will have to pay 20 bucks for a locking torx bit!!!! that and the plugs are designed to never disconnect so they are very hard to pull apart.. besides that no problem.. still please be careful |

OK, forget what they said, that's too complicated. Here's what you really do.
1) drive 30 miles an hour straight into a tree. 2) Get out of car. 3) Pull at airbag, until it is free. 4) Drive off. P.S. I am just kidding. |

The airbag issue is nowhere near as simple as some have been making out.
Airbags are great for saving the lives of people who would otherwise be Darwin-style selected out due to recalcitrance on the seatbelt issue. They work well in single-car crashes especially. There is no evidence that an airbag in addition to a properly used seatbelt provides any increase in survivorship. Repeat this to yourself again. But your insurance company offers a discount, you argue? The insurance industry recognizes that airbags in addition to seatbelts don't help you survive. The only reason they offer discounts is because a certain percentage of the drivers out there are idiots who refuse to wear seatbelts, the family of an idiot who survives doesn't file an expensive wrongful-death suit for which the company has to pick up the tab. On the other hand, airbags can by themselves cause problems. When they deploy drivers frequently suffer broken thumbs or have teeth knocked out (from their hand being thrown back against their face). They can kill smaller people who sit close enough to the steering wheel that the bag will actually make contact with them, instead of being the pillow into which a larger (non-seatbelt wearing idiot) is designed to fall. I once spoke to a guy who was a passenger in a '96 Prelude which hit a deep pothole at high speed. The airbags deployed and the driver sent the vehicle into a field. Thousands or dollars of damage were caused needlessly: everyone was wearing a seatbelt. In short the driver who always wears his or her seatbelt gains nothing from having an airbag, and actually takes on a significant amount of additional injury risk, all for the sake of saving the lives of idiots. People who wear their seatbelts should remove them. They, and I, and you too if you use your seatbelt, sure as hell don't need an armed explosive device pointed at their chest at all times. |

the debate for or against airbags is never ending, but if you are going to remove it BE CAREFUL. if you don't know what you are doing, don't even bother. there was a story up here, don't know if it's true, about a guy trying to break into a bmw, or something, with side airbags.it deployed and shot the bar he was using into his face.
8complex i agree with you on the seatbelts, but no airbags for 90 years, true, but thats like saying we should go back to front and rear drum brakes. thing change and improve. |
