Default A.R.E. Caps?

A.R.E. Makes a cap for Bajas. Half way down this page you'll see it and a flat tonneou (java- watch the pictures change) http://www.truckaccessorystore.com/new_product.htm

Does anyone here have one of these caps? Do the windows open? We're getting 2 puppies and already have a full grown Lab. This seems like the only sensible solution for vet visits and weekend rides. What do you think?

I have the ARE cap on my baja. I really like it. The side windows do open. I have a couple of pics that I just need to upload to my server and will post. The only disadvantage is that you loos about 1 1/2 " of visability out of the back because of the locking mechnisam. But you will get used to it like I have and don't even knotice it. I will have a bunch of pics soon that goes into detail. But I really do love mine. But the site for the ARE cap is http://www.4are.com/product/baja/ and it has mutch better pictures. The pictures on the site you gave me don't load for me.

I got one also,Its alittle darker when looking through 2 tinted glasses. You won't need to use your rear defroster anymore.I haven't had to use it since i put the topper on it.You won't need an inside light, thanks to the cargo lights they light up good. You'll get a lot of lookers trying to figure out what kinda car your driving.I've had a few asking that question.

It seams compleatly water tight. We wont see rain here for a little while, but when I washed the car, I tried to force watter in. When I was all finished, the inside was compleatly dry. ARE doesn't guarantee agenst being water tight though.
Dusty? do you mean the back window? Yes, it does get a little dusty, but not all that bad on everyday driving. I would bet on back roads (non paved) it would get prity dusty. I just use the window washer when I fill up and the dust comes right off.

How much are they? We have a ARE dealer near me. Should I order from them or direct from ARE?

Thanks for the responses guys!

I believe that the only way is to get it from a ARE Dealer. It was ~1800 out the door and installed.

Does the cap requires modification to the car? Is it easy to remove incase you need to haul something big?

I think its there to stay, they put some type of sealer across the top between the sport bars. The topper weighs about 120 lbs, they used a fork lift to install it on the Baja.

I've only seen a couple trickles down the back glass once when we had a heavy down pour.I have'nt seen any lately.I live on a dirt road and the bed floor and sides get dusty,i did'nt think that it would get dusty back there with the topper.where's it coming at,the bed drains? there good size holes.

I would guess that you live closer to ARE so less on shipping costs. I live in CA so that is most likely why. I know that this cap is a Z series topper, now I want to see if they can install the keyless entry system into it that is for the Z series.

As in taking the top off, that is the easy part. Just 4 bolts and it is off. Putting it back on can be the trick. the directions says to get a 2x4 or pice of pipe that is the right length to rachet down the cab side of the top to bolt it back on. The light comes wire comes off easy, It has a quick release housing for it and all you have to do is replace the 3rd brake light.

We were quoted $1799, ouch. I called a second dealer to see if I could get a price war going, but they haven't called back yet.

So, is there a 3rd brake light in the cap, or a hole to put one?

Both, mine came with the 3rd brake light installed. There's a cut out in the top for a brake light.

Finally downloaded the picture of my baja with the cap on it. I will be taking more soon, but here is a preview of what I got so far:

Big picture here

I stopped by the place I bought my cap and found that ARE also makes keyless entry for it. I have ordered it and will let you know how it goes. All it really is, is a unlock for the cap that ties into the trucks keyless entry system, so no new keyfob nessasary.

That looks really nice, its good to see that someone else out there has one. I peeled my A.R.E. emblems off the back corners,i think it looks better.

I posted that earlier, it was ~$1800 with installation. I think that ajabobrut got it for less. The place I bought mine i think only sells for MSRP, but I don't know and they are my only option. I ordered a keyless entry system for $165 + install, so My total is going to be ~ 250. That is a grand total of 2050.

how did you fix yours. I haven't taken time to see what I need to so to make it work better. Right now I un hook it and turn it around and rehook it and sometimes in the down position it down't lock into the gooves correctly so I just place it ontop of them and lock the straps down and it works for the most part.
