Default Moving to Valdosta, GA

Hey, I'm moving from NM to GA in a few weeks here, just wondering if there's anyone from Moody / Valdosta that's posting on here. Thanks.

I stayed in Valdosta for a few months one time. The water tastes like sulfur and the cockroaches are 4 inches long.

Thumbs up

Actually, I know someone in Tifton. His name is Billy and he's got a yellow WRX. Can't remember his screen name here, sorry.

I know him through an old school Subaru board on ezboard.com. He's got quite a few pre-85 Subarus and is a Brat nut like me. Very cool guy.

BTW, Jacksonville isn't that far is it?

I lived there for 3 years, not so bad once you get used to humidity! I now live near atlanta, but frequent valdosta often as thats where the wifes family lives. One nice thing there is Valdosta State University, full of women! That college used to be an all girls school some time ago, and the ratio is still 4 to 1. So with 4 girls to every guy at the college, don't pass up the educational opps! Since you mention moody, I guess your in the air force. What is your afsc or what do you do? I was stationed at moody my whole carrer and worked on 130's. Let me know when you get there and I'm sure we could have a meet and all WRX owners can meet, me and you, and one other I heard of...

on 75 you must be careful of speeding thru the area with the 3-5 exits for valdosta...speed traps all the time...they like to sit in the median and the guardrail kinda blends in with the color of their cars so they are not easily seen if you dont know to look for them...

i got my 1st speeding ticket there...i drive thru there a lot going to gator games in the fall...and my g-friends father lives in jax...maybe only 1-1/2 hrs from there

There are several of use in the Macon area. 2 hours north. Jax is 2 hours South with many members. Holl'r when you get a chance. You were in the dryer in NM your coming to the washing machine(high humidity). We have some pretty good meets in ATL. every quarter.

I lived in Valdosta for too long while my father was stationed at Moody. Not much goes on in GA south of Atlanta so visit Florida as often as you can to stay sane. Never I repeat never go to Wild Adventures and stay off Ashley street at night during the weekends because the light from all of the altezzas (ricers) will make you go blind.

Oh yeah, I bought my car from Pipkin's Motors in Valdosta so you have a Subaru dealer near you that has great service.

We got a few i-clubbers here in Tallahassee - we're about an hour away. Look us up if you do come into town.

Dr. Nick voice on/

Hey Ev'rybody!

/Dr. Nick voice off

Thanks for all the replies! The big move is less than a week away...yep, I'm in the AF - going to moody for pilot training. I got to spend a few days there earlier in the spring and as far as cockroaches and humidity is concerned, yeah, pretty nasty.

A little story for you...a friend just got a new mercury marauder (NA 302hp and ~ 315ft-lbs but HEAVY) and me with my wrx wagon went on a little "in the mountains spirited drive" - first, on the hiway getting there, I saw two flat bed trailers each with two SCCA ProRally WRX's all painted up (and souped up I imagine). So that got me all pumped - then to the mountain which ends at 10,600 - my friend told me later that he could definately feel a loss of power the higher we went in altitude, so chalk one bonus point for the turbo.

And to answer another question, yeah, I'll be about 50 miles north of Tallahasse (sp?) - is there any info on dealers around the area? Thanks

Cool, what are you going to fly? I guess you've already been through the t-38's? I have a few good friends who left the military a few years ago and fly for various airlines... I look forward to meeting you, it will be nice to know there is an I-clubber down there next time I go, with will be in about 2 weeks. Hope to hook up with you then if you are not flying. Oh, and they do have a nice f16 sim on base that rocks. Best video game ever. I get slaughtered with the enemies at full intel, but its fun none the less. Landing the 16 in 0 visibility is very cool, gotta love ILS...

Good luck on the move, hope they don't break to much of your stuff, or are you doing a DITY move?

Actually, I haven't even started flying yet (other than for my private pilot's license)...I'll be flying the T-6's at Moody. Turboprop, 1300 HP...makes the dub R look weak

I'm doing a partial DITY, loading up the wagon with as much as I can, then letting the AF move the rest. There's some decent $ in a DITY.

Anyhow, I'll be the guy in the red WRX wagon, maybe living at tall tree or spanish mission apts...see you there aug 14
