My girlfriend and I were near the outlet malls here, and had just eaten dinner. As we were driving back to get on 80, I found myself in the wrong lane with a 1/4 mile to the entrance to 80 at a stoplight. I pull up to the stoplight in the left lane next some type of silver convertible, I thought it was a chrysler seabring, but my gf thought it was a toyota camry solara. I didnt really get a good look because where I ended up stopping I was about a half car length ahead of him and he was sort of in a blind spot.
Anyhow I hear this monster rev, and my gf is like "oh no he wants to race". I was like, come on its a seabring, and as Im peering over my shoulder to try and see what it was, the light changes and he leaves hard. I get on it but bog bad, and by the time Im going hes about a car lenght ahead of me and the road is bending to the right away from me. I stay on it around the curve, and by about 70mph I have a car length and a half on him, calmly put on my turn signal, changes lanes in front of him, and hit the exit ramp. I could see the "***" look on his face. On a side note, his car seemed faster than I would have expected, it could have easily been an embrassing defeat with me forced to merge behind him if I had delayed a moment longer. I couldnt find much data on either car, are they even supposed to be remotely fast? He was neck and neck with me at around 30-40 mph (of course he was also on the inner loop). I asked my girlfriend about it after, but she said she had her eyes closed the entire time ![]()

props to you on the win... but plz be careful out there
Beating a knucklehead out on the street is not a good reason to risk wrapping your baja around a tree or light pole. although.... it sure is fun ![]() |

Yeah I agree, I dont normally try to race people on the street, but I made an exception this time. I kinda justified it by the fact that I needed to beat him to make the exit ramp merge. I kept my eyes open and was ready to hit the brakes if there looked like there was even any chance of a problem, but it was clear road with 55mph to 65mph speed limit all the way. |

how fast have you pushed your baby? I had it at 80 basically all last week on the back roads (which are only meant for 35...gotta love AWD). Gets intense. Fastest I have pushed it was 90 on the back roads and hit a cat. Gets the adrenilin pumping though and thats what I love.
Know your limits and you'll be safe! |

When it first hit 1000 miles I was on a straight stretch of open road and I probably got up to about 135-140mph. It was really steady, hardly felt like I was doing more than 65mph, and I was surprised but I didnt hit any kind of topspeed limiter.
But really, Im a safe driver normally! |

I have had mine up to 90, coming back from TX yesterday. I wanted to get away from the in-laws as fast as I could. ROFLOL!
I haven't had mine past 90, because of the open bed. I did see some idiot in a wrx blow by me at 120 (at least). I'm doing 90 and I felt like I was just dragging along. If I thought my baja would do it, I would have tucked in behind him. The fastest I have ever gone was 135 in a moded miata years ago. It felt like the hard top was wanting to get off at the next stop. No shake or shimy though, and I had some pedal left. My dad's comment "you could have gotten hurt doing that!" In a Miata, hurt would be lucky.... |

I have had my baja upto 110 once already. It seemed effortless for it and still had a bit of peddel left. I realized how fast I was going so I let off and went 90 the rest of the way. I was on a sprinted drive with a bunch of subie owners and they all went a lot faster than me, but that was as fast as I felt confortable with. But the baja was smoth and stabel at that speed.

I got the wife's 03 Baja well over 110 on the highway. Took a little while but it was also flat and stable at speed. QUIET too!

I am looking at one of those flat covers for the bed. The ARE cap looks nice, but then you have an outback wagon...don't you? Once I cover that bed, I might take my car to higher speeds. The quietness of the car at high speeds, is what really sold my wife and I on the car. It rides and handles like a car of a higher price bracket, and the quietness really shows the quality of the construction. I was used to that non-top door "window" sound from an old Miata, and an old corvette. If you have a window replaced, make sure it's aligned (I guess). My niece hit the passenger door (front) a few weeks ago. Darn thing has bad eye sight and just ran right into it.
Okay, she hit it with a Tahoe! The window was replaced after being scratched, while removing that plastic cladding. From 50mph on, you get that wind noise. GRRR! I am going to get this resolved on Wed, and will re-post to inform anyone if this is an alignment deal, or if the bodyshop just ordered the wrong window. |

as for the ARE cap. Take a look here if you haven't yet:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608139 You don't have a outback wagon exactly, but it is a little like it. A little more and a little less versitale. More in the fact that you can take it off and have the truck bed compleatly free, it looks more like a truck with a cap rather than a outback wagon. Less in the fact that you only have the smaller opening to the cab. I will be posing a lot more pictures of mine soon so stay tuned on that thread for it. Ben |

Uh Ben, I don't think they promote "posing" on this board. However, if you have to pose, please do so by your Baja. That is unless you are the only one there, then it's nearly impossible to click the camera, AND stand by the car at the same time. LOL
As for the cap, my wife likes the flat one and not the ARE one. So, the majority rules here. ROFLOL! |
