My last name is Porter. I've met several people with that first name.

Hell, I go by Porter so I guess I qualify too.

I'd feel really bad for anyone who ended up having my last name as their first name.

Not a chance. But some people have my first name as their last name, like Joe Nathan.

Al is short for Alamein, which is an Egyptian name with Islamic roots.
His father is Malaysian and Al was born in Egypt. A large number of Malaysians are Islamic, so most of their names are Islamic. In the cultural tradition, the woman (and children, if applicable) take the husband's first name as their last name, not his last name.

I agreed to this because Al agreed that it was ok for me to keep my maiden name. So, my full name is Meggan Ann Johnson Alamein. No hyphen.

I drop the Alamein and use my maiden name for business. A lot of old-school clients would not only be unable to pronounce it but also too curious about its origin. I'm proud of him and I keep his photos on my desk, so it's obvious that he's Asian, but there's no reason to start trouble with some of the more ignorant older people. Also, it's difficult to get the government to recognize the name use as legal without a formal name change.

No chance... never heard of anyone named Hill before.

Neither of my familys last names would have worked either... Aiello or Cosentino.

I have a friend named Chen Chen though

Perry's a common first name. In fact there's a Perry here at work, and I get his emails a lot because people are too stupid to actually check the auto-complete results in outlook when sending emails.

Or GG!!!

I never would have thought my last name would be used as a first name until Evander Holyfield began winning fights.

My son's first name is Anderson. I am willing to bet there are several of you with the last name of Anderson. My son's last name, however, is not Anderson, because that would just be stupid.
