yawn...

turbo...supercharger....same difference.

they both boost instead of suck.

but...

if your baja did not come with a turbo...then yea... supercharger would be a nice enhancement.

actually the turbo adds some more power than that supercharger. about 20-30 more ftlb torque. and at a lower power band

Today's turbochargers are generally considered to be superior to superchargers. Most turbochargers have very little spool up time now (a major problem in the past) or turbo lag, unless it is a really small motor and a huge turbocharger. A supercharger is a belt driven device that requires the engine to drive it, rather than recycled waisted energy as a turbocharger does. In other words, a supercharger has a parastic draw on the engine to drive it. A car with say 11psi of turbo boost would then produce more power than a supercharged car with the same boost, because the supercharged engine is using some engine power to create that 11psi, whereas the turbo is using otherwise waisted exhaust gas.

So in short, be happy you have easier access to the turbo option.

Yep. In fact MB recently announced that they would replace their current supercharged engines with turbocharged engines. That pretty much says it all for me.

I've neder owned/ driven a supercharged engine but I thought that even though they could not get the same amount of boost a turbo could get they have less lag time.

I don't know about any of you with your Baja T's. If you are like me and mine, you don't knotice any turbo lag at all. I have my baja in the shop getting by bumper fixed because the shop scratched it last time and they gave me a 04 WRX wagon and I definatally knotice the lag time in that.

"Today's turbochargers are generally considered to be superior to superchargers."
Yes and No.
Today's Turbochargers are superior to the Roots Style Superchargers.
Centrifugal Blowers like Vortech are still belt driven have a higher Adiabatic Efficiency then Today's Turbochargers.
We left out Turbochargers = a lot of under hood heat.
Turbo vs Supercharger is an Old War
In the end FI is FI... One is not better then the other, they do the same job.
I got the best of both worlds.
I have a Stock 2005 BAJA Turbo, Two Turbo Eclipses and one centrifugal Superchargered Eclipse sitting out front.
Case's 91 GSX has a PTE P&Ped GT32E Turbo w/ front mount ic.
My 99 GS-T has a Mitsubishi P&Ped Big 16G Turbo stock side mount ic.
My Stock 2005 BAJA Turbo
My 2000 GT has RIPP's SDS Stage 2 Kit w/ after cooler (Methanol Injection).
The real gain the Superchargered Eclipse has is NO LAG at all.
(YOU HIT THE GAS! YOU GO!)
I would love to have all the BIG Up Front Power in an AWD because its almost to much for just FWD.
The real gain the Turbo Cars is that realy cool blast of power feeling after the lag and in the winter the car stays nice and warm for like hours while your out shopping with the old ball and chain.

RIPP SDS Stage 2 Kit (14 psi)
- Vortech V5G Centrifugal Blower
- Ripp's Methanol Injection Kit
- Ripp's 2nd Gen BOV
- Ripp's Gray Box
- 310cc RC Injectors
- Walboro 255 Fuel Pump
- Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator
- 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante VRX Intake Plenum (Thanks Franchise)
- Ripp's Wiseco 9.5:1 compression PISTONS
- Chromoly Rings
- Ripp's Full Length Headers
- 3" Apexi N1 Exhaust
- Full Length Pillar - Two Pod
- Phantom Boost and Air / Fuel gauges
- Ripp's Motor Mounts
- B&M Short Shifter
- Clutch Master Billet ALUMINUM Flywheel
- Advanced Clutch Technology's Centerforce Dual-Friction
- Quaife Limited Slip Differential
