GC vs GD who's owned both?
I have a WRX now and think it is a great car but every time I see a GC RS I have to fight myself to turn away because they are so sexy .
I tell myself that the only way I would trade is to find a brilliant red 98 RS(best looking and rarest color figuring that would let me keep my WRX longer) but now I am thinking maybe white or WRB.
I would not be able to afford a motor swap right away but would definitely do one. How is the handling compared to the GD? The interior, ease of finding STi body parts?
Chime in and let me know what you think, am I just spell bound by a nice looking package full of an inferior product?

i owned an RS and it was absolutely the most fantastic period in my life. i drove it 10,000 miles in like 8 months, and then sold it for the same price i bought it for so i could save up for a different car.
i've driven wrx's and i think it's actually nicer to drive. it feels much more solid to me. you could easily do a swap for under 2000 bucks if you did most the work yourself and bought a used engine/tranny. if you wanted to make it look like an older JDM-style GC, you could have quite a few parts shipped over from japan using a site like rinkya.com.
now i have an L, with similar plans as you... minus making it look cool. i'll get suspension and wheels and good brakes and a nice wrx engine.... and still have a car that costs half as much as the cheapest stock wrx.... plus it'll be an experience putting it all together.
the interior in the RS is pretty cool in my book. I would avoid the leather interiors... they look cheezy. the seats are wider than you might be used to, but wrx seats bolt right in. the dash isn't as space-age looking, but with a few simple mods it has potential to make people turn their heads.... i thought it was nice all around. plus it's got a sunroof
good luck with the purchase, i sold mine for 13,500 but you can easily find them for almost half that. keep in mind, an engine swap requires more than just an engine... it's a drivetrain swap really.

1998 Forester, lifted.
Had both several times over
(GM6 RS-t, GGA WRX, WRX STi, now a GC4 hybrid frankensuby in training) The daily driver is a SG5 Forester XT, and occasionally my 88 RX or the 93 Loyale turbo (on nice summer days) There are also my 91 and 93 Legacy turbos and 96 OBS-S.
I love them all. The GC/GM/GF chassis feels dated compared to the GG/GD. But the GC just feels "right"

I have 01'RS and just bought a 04's WRX for my wife...I like the chassis for the GC's over the GD's...feel more solid and addicted to it...but I like the GD's interior, and the seat is better then the GC's(my opinion)...but I will recommend you to pick a GC if you're going to do a WRX swap later on...well...just my opinion...
