Question Question about brake pads on 03 WRX

It's time for new brake pads. I have what I think is a fairly early '03 WRX bought in September 2002. I have also read that there are different pads between the 02 and 03. That would be easy enough to decipher except that some places say 02-early 03. How would I know which pads would work on my car without trial and error?

2nd ? - I am seriously considering the EBC Red Stuff pads after reading many posts about different pads. I don't want to get a heated arguement started about which brand is better. My 1 concern about the Red Stuff (vs Green Stuff) is cold weather braking. I live in Richmond, VA so the weather isn't like the north pole but we do get occasional snow in the winter and temperatures can get down into the teens.

TIA,
Steve

You'll most likely need to provide the car VIN when purchasing pads to make sure you're getting the right version.

Places won't know from your VIN, but the dealership will. Call the parts dept and ask which pads you have.

I'll refrain from stating my opinion of EBC

Thanks for the feedback and for not getting into the 'which pad is better' debate. That's been beat to death now.

This still leaves the question about Red Stuff and colder conditions. exactly what type of 'lower performance' are we talking about with these and colder weather. 2 months out of the year at most, we experience sub-freezing weather. How cold is cold when we're talking about brakes? Is the 'cold performance' something you only need to worry about when you first get out on the road until they're warmed up with a couple normal stops or something I have to worry about all day long no matter how long I've been on the road. I tried finding more on this in the forums but everything is vague. If it's a major issue, I'll go with the greenies.

thanx,
Steve

Take a photo copy of your pad and when someone questions you about it, fax them a copy, they then can place what they have in their hand over the pad and at least get the overall shape and tab size right. You could measure thickness too. We had to do this to get some nice compound pads done before anyone had pads for the 2004 sTi.

Post a digital picture of your front brake pad. I can tell you which one you have.

ebc restuff's are made in the UK - it's not exactly warm there

maybe email EBC for more information, confirmation:
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html

they list the pads as street friendly and legal.
i'm sure they have tested them in ALL applications...

on WHICH pad to get...
get me your vin or production date (in your driver side door jamb)
and i will tell you what pads you need.

Thanks all for the feedback. I found out any 2003 WRX that was manufactured before October 2002 has the same brakes as the 2002 WRX. After October 2002, they use the 2004 brakes. The parts department helped me figure out when mine rolled off assembly. Since I bought mine in September of '02 it wasn't hard to figure out which mine had.
